It varies a hell of a lot though - I sell mens' shirts in my shop where an XL is 54"!

It depends if you want a looser fit - I sell 1950s-style bowling shirts so they're supposed to fit loose. I think people tend to go 4" up from their actual chest measurement to choose the right size shirt! However, if you asked a woman to go two sizes up, she'd have your arm off. (speaking as a woman...!)

Heheheh, no I'm purely online and part time! I'll look out for you next time I'm in BHS. Went there not long ago cos my boyfriend wanted a vest. Yes, my thrilling life....!

I finally found one. At GAP in the US, with a staggering 70% off.

The army surplus ones were too thick or tight, but the GAP one is perfect.
