There are people who genuinely like the albums and songs they release but then the band are actual talents and know how to make and perform songs. They are not cheesy emos. They don't please everyone, but that's not their problem. James could play guitar and perform with his eyes closed and it doesn't wreck a song they wrote by a sound quality or video problem at a fest like the r2 in the park. They perform amazing at their own concerts and what does it matter about the newer band members. I read that wayne is a true fan and always in awe of playing on stage with them. They are not lazy and as James performs songs with other artists. He doesnt think anyone is a detriment to anyone The duets are always great to hear. They are genuine artists.

The issue with Wayne is not his guitar playing which is competently not noticeable, it's his out of tune backing vocals that are turned up too high in the mix. Whenever I hear the opening riff of Slash N' Burn, my heart fills with dread at once again having to endure Wayne murdering "Kill to live Kill for kicks". Doesn't really matter to me that he's a fan or not, I just don't want have to live in fear of certain songs for fear of his backing vocals.

The simple fact is they play better, sound better, and look better when it is James playing all the guitar parts.

I don't mind the extra musicians, I just don't think James's ever sounds as good as he does with a Les Paul. I've seen a lot of footage from the Suede tour and he seemed to be having a lot of interaction with his pedals which he never used to have.

Yeah I get that, but even that was sporadic.

I dunno, every date I saw them on on the EMG, TIMTTMY, KYE tours it was all done off stage (I think even on the Lifeblood tour but wasn't able to get a good enough look). All that was at his feet was monitors and setlist.

So that's why during the Millenium gig there was no pedal on the stage? I always thought that somebody else was managing them, but I never heard such a thing so I was not sure.

Leading to situations like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=875WXKm3Ns0&t=44s

Which can be translated as

"turn my guitar up, I can't hear it!"

*turns on overdrive from off-stage*

"NO FFS"

I had no idea that James wasn't in charge of his pedals. Although around the SATT era I did notice that the drums during the first verse of La Tristesse were played by Naysmith on keyboards rather than by Sean.

Any other live trickery... or does it deserve a thread of its own?

It took me a long time to clock that James had someone off stage controlling his pedals for a while, it was a surprise to notice them on stage later on. I remember one gig when they started You Love Us and there was no guitar for a few seconds, he shouted something looking really pissed off to his tech.

I wonder if he'd made the decision to use them as their stage setup changed.

*soft piano music and slowed down black and white backstage footage

Earnest British Actor Voiceover: Every year dozens of backstage technicians are shouted at by James Dean Bradfield at Manic Street Preachers concerts. But with your help we can release them back into the wild where they belong. As long as we don't have to feed them. Obviously.

More common than you think and now with the advancement of digital effects and such, effects changes are programmed in and synced up with a click track removing the need for a human input. I like how James has regressed and has taken control of his pedal board.

Not sure if this is a mixing or pedal eff up but it's always a good time to share this video of Richey being really high in the mix and watching the different band members react:

Ah the first time I saw the manics live... that was a festival soundboard fuckup, the engineer didn't know that Richey wasn't a lead guitarist from what I recall.

Despite that mess up it was still a great gig, the schedule had gotten bumped around and so they come on about 2 bands earlier than they should have and because James had only gone blonde very recently and the album wasn't out long alot of people didn't know who they were but they still managed to outshine most of the acts that followed that day.
