I like the song. It's an ear-worm for sure.
Yeah it’s dropped slightly, still for nearly a month it’s done well.

I’m not sure if it’s just sales, but either way it’s decent.

Edit: Now currently 45th - I'd be interested to know how may sales you need to chart on Itunes?

Given that downloads are the lowest selling format (outside of niche stuff like cassettes), probably not that many.

I don’t disagree but how many downloads per day to sit in iTunes top 50? 50? 100? 500? 1000?

The Cure's new single is out today. Wonder if their fans find it cheesy, uninspired, Cure-by-numbers?

Worth remembering that the Manics have put out six brand new albums (along with National Treasures and a fair number of reissues) since the last Cure album came out!

That new Cure song, wow. If the manics could put out something a tenth as 'real' these days they'd be doing well.

Guess that's one of the benefits of having your own identity instead of just magpieing bits of others.

Manics and Kieran should take notes on how to do a proper lyric video from them too but no, i'm sure they'll just keep on playing checkers.

If I can get over the adjustment the singing comes about three minutes in, I could probably get into The Cure more.
Although thank you for inspiring the Manics, Robert!
Still prefer Decline&Fall. And has anyone heard the new one from HAIRCUT 100?
They seem to have been listening to early 90's Jangle pop things.

I’m almost convinced that the new Cure video is actually a rotating lump of cheddar, does that count?

(Joking side, very good song, but not as good as Decline & Fall for me).

The Manics and the Cure are my 2 favourite bands. To be quite honest, I much prefer the having regular hit and miss albums with the odd classic to 14 years of absolutely nothing (or 32 years since the last decent album)

To be honest I got bored in the intro of the new Cure song. I like many of their songs but the bleakness of that song doesn't make me want to get the album.

Definitely not as good as Decline & Fall.

First Cure song I've liked since 1992, although admittedly I think it's at least 60 times better than Decline & Fall.

I liked The Cure when they sung about Love. Possibly the new album will have different songs.

I'm one, and I do find it latter-day-Cure by numbers (though not cheesy). Glad to be in a safe space where I can say that! It's very similar to the big shimmering gloomy one from their last album, Underneath the Stars, and that's not the kind of Cure that does it for me personally. However I did like a lot of the last album, so here's hoping, and I'd rather have them back of course than not.

And I like it a hell of a lot more than Decline and Fall.

This pretty much sums it up.

And for the record, although maybe I'm not a huge Cure fan, I do find most things they've done up to Wish very inspiring musically, and I quite like "Alone." It's a nice throwback to their glory days without them desperately trying to sound more modern. The bass sounds superb. And it's amazing how little Robert's voice has changed over the years :O
