The single will flop no matter what it is so I'm looking to what would be best on the next compilation. Postcards is another to put on the ADFL rewrite pile alongside Indian Summer, so that's a waste of time. SKON really does need a new mix for a single release because the production is starting to get on my nerves even though I like it as a song.

Because of the above I'd go with Golden Platitudes for second single and Auto-Intoxication for third. Not that there'll be a third and, like I said, they'll both flop just like anything else will.

Tough choice between the three - SKON, Postcards or GP.

Don't see why they should flop. I don't view INW as having flopped that much considering the climate of the charts these days.

Because they're gonna get washed away in the Christmas market. Even The Everlasting was a Christmas turkey for a band of their status at the time (and following on from Tolerate).

The Everlasting got to #11 I believe, which isn't too bad considering it's quite a melancholic sounding song.

Come on balconies, we could have a big sci-fi space ship fest, culminating in an all out battle between the wire and FD...

Aha found it! They had a second song planned called 'Who Killed Christmas'

We've been toying with the idea of doing a Christmas single. Its either"Ghosts Of Christmas" which is a bit Pogues-y or "Who Killed Christmas?" as in it's become fucking shit. James tells me he's written some words and I've got to fill in the blanks my line was "I killed myself on Christmas Day/it felt so good I did it again" Martin and James kind of looked at me a bit shocked. It might be official release, it might end up on the website, I don't know. We want to do something that sounds like The Sweet, something a bit festive, a proper Christmas record, the anti-X Factor in the classic British tradition of Wizard, Slade and Saint Etienne featuring Tim Burgess. Hopefully the lyrics will give it something a bit extra.
Or maybe not with lyrics like that

I absolutely agree, 'the Descent' is simply not single material and would flop horribly. Has to be SKON or PFAYM and if one of those was successful than maybe GP would be a good third single.
Pleased with the chart position considering all the new entries.
