Question for those who follow the Manics on whole tours

Most of the time I rock up just before doors and get to the front or thereabouts anyway. Most of the venue are at the bar and/or handing their coats in. There's really no need.

It's a matter of opinion though isn't it. Some people don't mind second row but I despise second row or anywhere behind it as I feel detatched and it hurts having to stand for yourself without leaning. I also hate being on the peripheries because the view's not as good.

To me there's nothing better than being front and centre and the queuing is completely worth it. It's also fun because you get to sit, eat, chat and generally doss about. What I don't like is getting to the front after queuing all day and being resented for it by idiots in the second row who feel it's their divine right to take your place.

I dunno whether its the gigs I go to but generally there are tons of push and shove that end up giving a cycle of people getting/leaving the barrier. Albeit this is more of a problem for packed tiny gigs which I attend so that could be that, I can't be arsed paying anything over £15 for any band nowadays...

I think the front is overrated though - it's like sitting right in front of a TV screen - I actually feel more detached at the front as I eventually feel like I'm not even at a concert - just watching something unbeareably close-up. Better to take in some of the crowd, I think, and enjoy the shared experience of the many as opposed to the limit experience of the few

Don't have a problem holding myself up for that amount of time either, and I find the front slightly awkward - what to do with your arms when the space in front of you is so rigid? Flop them over the top? Can't hold them upright for a whole gig...

That said, I'm 6'2" and at any gig seem to form a vacuum behind me - if I was to stand at the very front it would really take the piss.

Haha, reminds me of my mate, he's 6'6 and gets shit off everyone at gigs for being pushed to the front.

I usually go to two or three dates on a Manics tour,depends if I can get time off work.But I don't do the whole queue up all day thing.I'd find that really boring and cold on the winter tours.I'd rather do a bit of shopping and have food then turn up about 6.30.I've always been lucky enough to get a good spot once I'm in the venue.

I personally can't understand people that want to queue all day. There's better things to do surely. You've got your ticket already so why stand there freezing.

i just dont think there are that many bands worth queuing for besides MSP.

the last band i remember waiting in line for an hour was manu chao. (he had never been to my city before)

Can't understand people waiting in line for anyone to be honest. Maybe waiting in line if tickets are going on sale and you want to get them from the box office direct or something, sure that's different.

The barrier is of course great for getting some pictures - if I was on the barrier I'd take some and then try and get off of it to get a bit of movement in. I'm usually on the barrier/front for most of my favoured more sedate bands who aren't very well known and don't have much queing on doors, but it's not too enjoyable when the crowd behind you have a bit of a better time for jumping around.

I think at MEN 2004 some little 'princess' bitch pushed all the way to the front and passed me like it was her right and duty, and she had a bit of a thug-looking boyfriend so I didn't bother having a word.

I'm 5ft3" so if I'm not on the front then I have to go back about 10 rows just to see anything!

I agree with you.I'd find it really boring waiting about all day like that,not to mention Freezing.I love the Manics but i'm not going to catch the flu waiting around all day in December for them.I'll be in a cafe having a hot drink instead.Then I'll enjoy the concert and get a good view at the front.

I'm with you on this one! I'm 5ft1'' and I usually end up in the front row because tall men feel sorry for me and know they'd get exactly the same view even with me in front of them...
