Junk of the Heart >>> SATT, PFAYM, RTF
(but...this is a question of taste so no point in it ) The quality. Back in 90s James's songs were so exciting, but his songwriting ability's gone now IMHO. He only repeats the same cliche again and again. but anyway it was a reply to "Except about PFAYM, where it's objectively bad and anyone who likes it is just weird." I wanted to say that RTF might be also proven objectively bad soon :-)

Err doesn't Nicky write the songs (mostly...and yep even some of them musically nowadays!)
If you dislike em so much why post here so much? |

From what I've heard, it's not "Robert Wyatt" stripped back. (Although the day they say their next album with be "Our 'Old Rottenhat'" will be the day I streak naked in joy)
I'm looking forward to hearing it this week, and I'm glad you've made a poll. |

I would describe the album as Lifeblood (which I rate as the worst) mixed with The Great Western. Wont be in my top 5 manics albums. Its quite catchy, it sneaks up on you with more listens. Manorbier features the best wire lyrics since TIMTTMY. Ranked against he other albums it will end up in the middle or near the bottom.
its not that its bad, it just not the manics.... |

Well, it IS the Manics - they made it the way they wanted to!
I'm getting the hump with all this it's not the Manics crap. Every one of their albums is different so what IS the Manics?!!! |

Only 2 very good songs on it, there are some really cheesy 'boy band' lyrics As Holy As The Soil (That Buries Your Skin) that song is hideous.
I think the LP is diabolical but I'll give it more time. |

I've only been listening to it for a day but i quite like it. 'Sullen welsh heart' is beautiful, i know nearly everyone hates pfaym but i always loved 'i think i found it' because it had a simplicity to it. Sullen takes what i loved about it and perfects it. Lyrically it's Wire's best in years, less of the i want to be richey more introspective, similar to this is my truth which is where i think he was at his best.

These are the keepers for me.
Sullen Welsh Heart Builder of Routines 4 Lonely Roads Tokyo Skyline (although I am furious over the repeating of verses) Running Out Of Fantasy. Manorbier That's half an album. Can't grumble. I can also live with hearing What Happened To The Blue Generation again. The rest of this album can fuck off. |
