They should have gone for 3000, 3000 would cover everybody on this forum and then some.

Seriously, find me one single shred of evidence to support this blatantly absurd statement. I get why people are annoyed at the limited availability, but c'mon, a staggeringly obscure twenty-year-old track would do better than all three of the heavily publicised PFAYM singles? Based on what?!

based on the fact that it's one of the most loved songs by their fanbase, only a fraction of whom were aware of the band and bought it at the time? many of us don't have it outside of FD and the Twin Town soundtrack, and would thus consider owning the single a crowning moment of awesomeness.

many Manics fans had nothing to do with the PFAYM singles, in particular the 2nd and 3rd. many Manics fans would, i argue, have something to do with MJ.

Completely agree. Would sacrifice all my PFAYM singles for MJ

All of which isn't particularly relevant, since the success of a single doesn't depend purely on a band's hardcore fanbase. Also you wouldn't own the single, you'd own a re-release. And the CD/12" aren't that hard to come by (I think I got mine for less than £20 each on ebay), so I guess most fans aren't really trying

In any case I think you're confusing 'fact' with assumptions and received opinions.

Regards,
Marwood.

oh...btw...I just remembered...I have a lovely, shiny and new copy of 'Underdogs' from STT (of which, there were only 1,000 too!) available to swap for a copy of 'MJ', if anyone's interested (I bought 2 at the time...in case I scratched one!)...
It's either that...or my body..and seriously...you don't want that!

yeah, OK. you're right or "more right" than i if that makes your day better. i was basis it purely on my reaction, the reaction of people on here before my post and thinking of the arse headed approach taken with this when compared to the heavy handed, odd pushing of the PFAYM singles. if 900 copies of it are up for sale on the website previously linked to on May 21st, please by all means post one of those "ner ner" pictures.

i didn't, for the record, state that it would be "the biggest number one ever" or shit like that, merely speculated that a bit more than 1000 copies available for sale might well see it have a better chart position than it currently does against its name, whether you wish to see it as the single or a "re-release".

Nevermind, what would be the point...

I'm sorry I seem to have upset you so much, starstruck.

if it wasn't for a mere 7000 miles between us i would say "fancy a pint" and discuss it further, mate. not upset or offended at all. the idea of forums are to discuss / debate things like this, and i am genuinely surprised and interested to read your view on it.
