Oh I forgot libraries gave us power, if only Nicky had known Cameron was coming he could have saved those lyrics. A Design For Life seems much more relevant today than it did then.

If almost anyone else had put those lyrics to music then that album would have been just as depressing and self pitying as many people claim. But James just makes it so fucking defiant! I love the raging against the dying of the light thing that that album has.
I agree, it definitely sounds defiant. For me usually it's more comforting than anything else, I give it a listen and it's like it just wraps around me and makes me feel safe and more content than I was before. Then the next listen through it fully brings that defiance and ends up feeling empowering. I have a strange relationship with it... I certainly don't find it as depressing as most people do, it's just real. Cathartic, honest.

For me it looks like some of the songs off GATS feature highly. Perhaps for these lyrics it’s more the way it is sung. Either way, I still like these lines,

“I sold my medal
It paid a bill
It sells at market stalls
Parades Milan catwalks
Oh, the sadness will never go
Will never go away
Baby it's here to stay
La tristesse durera
Scream to a sigh”

And of course these lyrics. Because I do…

“Your ritual everyday
A mild shower soak in aftershave
Best clothes do your best
Look in the mirror go on
Belittle yourself yourself yourself”

These two words sum up my feelings for so many. From the much ignored “Miss Europa Disco Dancer”,

“Braindead motherfuckers”

Finally. These lyrics. ‘Cos I do.

“We love the winter, it brings us closer together”

yeh some great examples above - i do love the "glory days" line from if you tolerate this, but my two choices are for the delivery by james as well as the line itself:
"nobody loved you like meeeeeeee"
"yes you can build yourself around me, self around me-e-e-e-e"
love them!

One of the best misheard lines ever! EVERY time I listen to Peeled Apples this line comes to my mind and I have to grin like an idiot because I picture an immensely disappointed Morrissey clutching his empty ice cream carton and shedding a tear or two.

Reading through this thread I keep going - 'Oh, that one! And that one!' So many brilliant lines to choose from!

May have been, I don't know my proverbs that well. "Faster" is my favourite MSP song, it was hard for me to choose a favourite line as there are so many good lines in this.
