Possible fire to this theory surrounding pulling Black Holes is the fact when they talk about duets they NEVER mention this song of Sophie Ellis Bextor.

On a side side note I wouldn't mind hearing them due LBN again in future tours.

If I'd decided to do a duet with Sophie Ellis Bextor I would never speak of it either.
(Not that it's a bag song, just because... well... Sophie Ellis Bextor.)

Struggled with this song at first, but finally come round to it this past week. For me the best version of the song would lie somewhere between the demo and the album version as both have their merits and faults (in my opinion of course). Still not a fan of Green Gartside's voice though!

Been reading a bit about the painting that the song draws it's title from. Some people read really deeply into art (one article I read suggests that the clock in the painting represents a coffin). Is there any chance it is simply a self portrait of a man standing in his bedroom, quite literally between his clock and his bed?

Edvard Munch has deliberately made use of symbolism like the clock that resembles a coffin throughout his career, and this is his final self-portrait completed before his death, when he was already feeling rather feeble. So the interpretation of the clock (without arms) as a symbol of death is very likely. Even though the painting initially looks deceptively bright due to the use of colours.
What I don't understand is why you would set a lyric about such a bleak and sad painting to music that is suited for a seventies-disco-compilation.
