Maybe without B-sides they just can’t choose which track is next.

“It feels impossible… to pick A-side”

That new interview with Nicky from BBC 6 Music yesterday - is that a snippet of the song with Mark Lanegan?!

Do you mean at around 0.46 here? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqBl...annel=MSPpedia If so, that's a Mark Lanegan song called Methamphetamine Blues from his album Bubblegum. As much as I'd have loved that to have been the vibe Manics were going for! I'd definitely recommend that album - one of my Lanegan favourites.

I will definitely check it out then. Loved Screaming Trees as a teen and obviously enjoyed Lanegan’s work with Queens Of The Stone Age.

It's streaming at https://open.spotify.com/album/3JqpUkcAKLqzUEOEku3Brc, if you live in Tonga or Samoa (or can *ahem* convince Spotify that you do).

I can confirm if the system thinks you're in new zealand, the youtube link works...

First impressions are that it's very playful and has a very bouncy rhythm. This is probably the track on the album where the abba influence is at its most intense. It would have sat perfectly as an Lifeblood b-side or on the first half of Postcards (in a good way). Probably prefer Orwellian as it's much more a classic Manics track but obviously there's still time for it to grow in my estimation.

According to the youtube description, background vocals are supplied: Cat Southall which I don't think has been mentioned before. It's very well layered track, it that could justify having two additional guitarists live on stage.

THE SECRET HE HAD MISSED ( F E A T . J U L I A C U M M I N G )

THE SEA -YOUR ROOM -YOUR GOD
THE INTERIOR WORLD YOU LOVED
YOU TURNED FACES INTO ICONS
BUT THE MIRROR KILLED ALL YOUR FREEDOM
QUIET STEADY AND UNIQUE
OPPOSITES UNITED BY BLOOD AND DEED
BOREDOM YOUR BIGGEST ENEMY
LEFT YOUR HEART ON THE BEACH IN TENBY

I’LL BE REMEMBERED AS YOUR BROTHER
ALL MY WORK ADDS UP TO NOTHING
YOU IGNORED THE REVOLUTIONS
THEY JUST LED YOU NOWHERE

THE SECRET HE HAD MISSED WAS LYING AT HIS FINGERTIPS
THE GIRL IN THE LONG BLUE DRESS
CAST A SPELL AND LEFT US BLESSED

LOST YOUR HEART AND SOUL IN FRANCE
PRAYED SO HARD THAT LOVE WOULD LAST
BOHEMIAN WITH NO CONTROL
IF ONLY YOU HAD YOUR SISTER’S SOUL
NEVER HAD THE CHANCE TO RECONCILE
LIVING SEPARATE AND LONELY LIVES
IF ONLY WE COULD MEET AGAIN
WE COULD FIND A DIFFERENT END

I’LL BE REMEMBERED AS YOUR BROTHER
ALL MY WORK ADDS UP TO NOTHING
YOU IGNORED THE REVOLUTIONS
THEY JUST LED YOU NOWHERE

THE SECRET HE HAD MISSED WAS LYING AT HIS FINGERTIPS
THE GIRL IN THE LONG BLUE DRESS
CAST A SPELL AND LEFT US BLESSED
WALLS DEFEATED BY THE SEA
STILL RESONATE AN IMPERFECT DREAM
THE WHISPERING WAVES STILL CLEANSE AND CLEAN
THEY CAN’T WIPE AWAY WHAT YOU’VE SEEN
