For me the 'Godfather' lyric is along the same line as 'Like Carlito's Way, there are no exit signs' from Black Dog.

The reference wouldn't work if he'd said The Godfather or The Godfather Part 2 which are admittedly the better films.
agree with that one! and it includes thoughts like 'may i would have liked to break out, but in last consequence i stay where i belong'

Ahhh ok, that makes sense now, thank you!
Now I know it actually has proper meaning, it makes it more bearable (although not completely because I still don't like the way it sounds in the song, but I'm just being picky now).

If he's talking about a 'shining path' as a metaphor for a brave approach than that's one thing. If he's talking about 'Shining Path' or Sendero Luminoso than that's another. Is he following the early Shining Path or its later incarnation?

why do you think it's connected with THAT shining path? are there any more connections to the way of that peruan group in the text? i find nothing that definitely points on that one...maybe the lyrics of the first vers if one wants to read it like that...have to think about that again....hmmm....but i read it more like A shining path....the question what people would do to get higher in society...esp. 'breaking bones and shaking hands' wouldn't fit on the peruans...

I don't know about his solo song by that title, I was referring to the lyric in Baby Elian.

Just because the 2nd is older, doesn't make it any more acceptable

You might as well say "like Back to the Future, where we're going we don't need roads" or "Like Star Wars, I am your father"

Those would be ace actually! I like the two lyrics that are being discussed.

Exactly. I understand what he was going for, but that doesn't make it any less of a clunky lyric!

This one's pretty awful too. Maybe I'm just averse to name-dropping though...

My Guernica pisses me off. The TS Eliot namecheck - it's not 'Alfred J. Prufrock', it's 'J. Alfred Prufrock' and this winds me up far more than it should
(don't even get me started on how they pronounce Guernica...)

I don't like PCP's chorus, I mean, it's ok, but I think it doesn't quite fits with the rest of the song, I don't know, it feels weird.

Dunno about the Prufrock thing as never knew what that was referring to anyway! But is there another way to pronounce Guernica?
