I'd think so, too. It would totally spoil the nostalgia parade. But seriously, it would make no sense whatsoever to release new stuff in the wake of the EMG-celebrations and have that overshadow the new release. So next year sounds more realistic, unless they (James) get cabin fever at home with the loved ones by autumn.

If they've been working on stuff I reckon we might get something towards the end of the year, EMG stuff will be done with after May, so I reckon early October will be a good time for a new album. I just want more Manics stuff

So... 2017 you think we'll get a double album of "anthems"?
Their double album got a lot of stick for "Mish mash", which is why we got RTF and F released a year apart.
Their last double album was 2001, so maybe it's time.
The trouble with this band is, if they bring out another killer 12 track album, there'll be b-sides that still make you go "Why didn't they make it a double album and put that on instead of etc!".

Always worries me to hear Manics and anthems in the same sentence. Normally means lack of ideas.

The band are at their strongest when they have a concept. Often the concept carries the band through an era, even if the albums are patchy no matter how much media fawning surrounds them - RTF and Futurology being ideal examples.

I would love a little EP thingy for the EMG gigs rather than wait till 2017 for a full album of SATT/PFAYM "anthemic" overproduced Eringa nonsense.

I've learnt quite quickly being a fan of this band that they never really push themselves to be completely different from the rest. They did that on THB and only that. I love the band as much as anyone but I really do think they go for the "easy" option rather than pushing themselves. The next album will be a "flag in the ground, amps ramped up to 11, anthemic pop" record. I'll eat my hat if this is not the case.

here's a live review, and a letter from a fan sent in, both from a 1997 issue of kerrang magazine (I'm trying to get all the issues from the 90s - when it was good)

cant do scans so had to take pics and upload

With the re-release of EMG soon it seemed timely

Lol,

"Corbyn has been invited to speak at Billy Bragg's Left Field stage"

Some free advice for the Corbyn/Wire hybrid-being: avoid all the controversy and just go to the toilet before you get there.
