For my contribution to gaming the chart, I’ve been playing the album on Spotify rather than listening to my local library… 61 streams so far apparently, does that count as another unit towards sales yet? (I think I already know the answer here…)

Deep inside Manics HQ I'd imagine there are racks of servers, crunching bitcoins and listening to TUVL on repeat

Right, got the LP + 7" + Pryzm ticket, hooray! This brings me to 5 Manics gigs this year (if I make them all, deities willing, etc). I haven't done that many in a single year for ages (if ever!)
Weirdly, I had to leave a comment on the ordering page before they'd let me through to payment - it seemed to suggest that this was going to be a message on a signed record? Anyway, I just wrote "Stay beautiful!" of course Okay, now I'm off to stream TUVL another 9784 times. Edit (I'm all about the edits today): If it is going to be signed, I should have put my name there, shouldn't I? Never mind!

On another page on the site they say that this box is for any question you might have in the Q&A. They definitely don't make it clear though.

I keep listening to the album on Spotify. I read somewhere that 1,500 plays of any song count as a sale towards that particular album. Not sure how it all work really. Hopefully the band can hang on for a No.1 but we'll see.

Ah, gotcha! No, it certainly wasn't clear. Looks like I just told the Manics to stay beautiful then

Maybe this is why Nicky included his minute-long demos on the Spotify album. We see you and your repeat button, Wire.

The chart finishes on Thursday night, right? Expect hitherto unseen levels of signed tat to be offered

Oh no, such a shame. I know the charts mean nothing but it would be nice for them to get a number 1 album.

This is going to come across as a really naive question but....what difference does it make, really? Why would having a no.1 album help them? Other than it being a nice thing to say they've had and something to stick on the adverts?
Is there any genuine financial, contractual, whatever benefit to having a no 1 album?

Financial, yes because it equates to more sales.
Speculation follows: I believe the biggest benefit is the additional coverage it will give them, see for example Mogwai whose number 1 album earlier in the year was a major talking point for a while and probably contributed to their nomination for the Mercury (it is a bloody good album but that's hardly new for them). It raises their profile temporarily, may help them get playlisted on radio and streaming services and will probably please their record company, which is never a bad thing.
