I wonder if SP is as close to the band as he thinks he is?

He'd say and do anything to make it seem like he is or ever was. Even if he is or was, there's no value in his obnoxious, ego filled drivel. He was an irrelevance at his peak; the best word to describe him now would be "who?"

Simon Price falls into this category. It's what fucked up 'Everything'. He's not alone though. Chris Salewicz was the same with his Joe Strummer biography and Paul Trynka with his Iggy Pop one. It was only after reading 'Everything' that I realised that Simon Price was the person that i'd mistaken for an obsessed fan from the terrible "vanishing of richey manic" doc. tbh I haven't read everything since I first got it on publication. Just remember liking it a lot. Praps I should read it again ...might end up like my re-read of Enid blyton ...from warm fuzzies nostalgia to oh god this is shit...teachers were right
I'd like a good biography please

He's also a big part of the reason they got coverage in their early careers and seems to enjoy guest status at their gigs from time to time. The only thing I've ever wondered about him is if he has a day off from doing the hair thing - I'd love to see him putting out the bins on a Sunday evening!

You think SP is obnoxious, try reading Everett True's Nirvana book. He makes Simon look like Michael Palin.
I love Everything, and I don't know anything about Price aside from what he wrote there. I didn't see it as anything other than (or claiming to be anything other than) a journalist's perspective? An enthusiastic yes from me!

Fully agree. It's by far the best biography of the band (not hard I guess) and Pricey is great on the Chart Music podcast so it's a firm yes from me too!
Would prefer a standalone sequel if I had the choice to be honest. Last edited by Glyn; 04-02-2021 at 18:48. |

Check out this interview from the Everything Must Go Reissue. Lots of "in" references throughout and then when it goes to the track by track he commits one the cardinal sins of journalism, he answers the fucking question on behalf of the interviewee. Quote:
The fact that 'Everything' is the best biography of the band only speaks of the shocking quality of the available biographies. |

There is another Manics book coming out this year, I believe. But it's not really a biography.

I’d rather a follow up to Everything than another half assessed attempt at another Richey insight. I’d even buy it if there was chapter dedicated to tearing apart trashpiles like Withdrawn Traces.
