The Official Oh My God I Heard The Manics In AMERICA Thread
VH1 Classic played the video for Slash'n'Burn about ten minutes ago, and I'm still grinning like an idiot.

I grin like an idiot anyway, whenever I see that video, but it's so much nicer when it's a random surprise.

I introduced an American friend to the Manics and even though I knew they were unknown it still surprised me that she had literally no clue who they were.
Her: So... they're a small band then...? Me: No. Well, they're not as big as they were, but... Her: So the majority of people in England don't know them? Me: No, they would. Most people could hum A Design For Life. Her: But they don't sell that many records... Me: At one point they were the biggest selling band in the country. Her: Huh. Me: THIS IS WEIRD. |

The Galaxie satellite radio stations in Canada have played the Manics a few times on the "Alternative Rock" station, and not the obvious ones, either (out here that would be Tolerate & Stole the Sun). I've heard Let Robeson Sing and Kevin Carter in the last two months.

Is that a satellite channel? Er, either way, I imagine most of us wouldn't have been able to see that anyway *disappointed*
Although the idea of a VH1 station that actually plays music videos does greatly appeal to me... |

Blah sorry for the late post i've been on vacation...
Every time Slash N Burn comes on VH1 Classic I get so happy. It's such a suprise when it happens.. like early Christmas or something. Personally where I live it's a shock if I even hear like.. Franz Ferdinand. But a growing fanbase.. uh. if it grew massive.. (I know that won't happen) here.. would just be.. really surreal and odd. Very very odd. |

I heard the manics loads last year while i was in America. It was on my Zen though so kinda cheating
Everytime I hear forever delayed or bored out of my mind it reminds me of the coach trip through the desert in the heat *sigh* |

I've heard them on Indie 101.3 out in LA many times. Steve Jones likes them.

The Subway (sandwich shop) that my firend works at plays the "Music Choice" channels over their pa, and i blame history and i heard "You Stole The Sun..." once.
My buddy siad he heard it again about two months ago. MY brother also called me up one time and said he saw the video for Slash and burn without the sound on VH1 Classic. (it was at hsi bar, while they were doing something and the jukebox was going. Decided to put something on the telly besides sports that night, I guess.) He didn't hear it, but said it looked like "they rock out with their cocks out." I proceeded to to burn him a copy of GT that he lost before listening to it.

i'm on holiday in america atm and every time someone sees my 'useless generation' tattoo it leads into a conversation about the manics which ends up being likes this ...'wales? where's that? near ireland?' 'the manic who? manic peaches? crazy preachers?' etc etc BUT THEN one of our hosts friends had PCP on his ipod!! amazing.

Weirdness of all weirdnesses -- recently the "Classic Alternative" radio station I get through my cable TV service played, of all things, Nobody Loved You.

Quote:
I did hear MSP at a Barnes & Noble bookstore in Baltimore. I asked the cashier who had chosen to music and she tells me it's the store manager, then starts to launch into an explanation of who the band is, at which point I tell her "I know," and flash my Faster tattoo. So exciting!! and somewhat jarring after being a fan for about 10 years and not once hearing them played in the US.
