Question for those who follow the Manics on whole tours

How do you do this?? Its sort of amazing it can all come together....
I would not have a job if I decided to do something like that and there is no way I could tell my bosses what I was planning. Prob a good thing I live too far away to actually do this....

Please enlighten me

Do you have jobs that allow you to take so many days off?

Isn't it expensive to travel for 15+ days?

Do you buy tickets for all the dates in advance or what?

Do you book hotels for each evening?

What does the band think?

The nearest I have come to following a tour is two dates in 2007!

Well if about 80% - 90% of a tour counts...

Um, I have a regular job, nothing fancy or particularly flexible. Yes, it's expensive. Yep, bought in advance. The band don't mind, in fact I think they quite like seeing familiar faces on a regular basis.

This, basically, or just do our usual method of "cram as many people as humanly possible into one room and hope housekeeping don't notice".

...followed by screaming at the computer when Seetickets crash, and then having to sell/try and cancel half your tickets coz Seetickets sell you double what you ordered and charge you triple the money for no apparent reason.

Or is that just me?

I only took a fortnight (and a day) off for the last tour - no more than what my work colleagues take for their annual holiday. Not sure how work would feel if I did a longer tour, but one of my colleagues took three and a half weeks off this year to go to China, so depending on the time of year, who knows.

Not if you buy everything in advance - train tickets are expensive if you buy them on the day, but not if you buy them months ahead (also, I have a railcard so get a third off the price). Also, the megabus is stupidly cheap - it cost me £1 to get between Bristol and London. Even plane tickets can be bought for really cheaply (god bless budget airlines) - I would say I spent about £10-15 on average travelling between each gig.

Yes

You can fit many people in a travelodge room. Also, hostels are cheap, and there's often someone you can stay with for free. Even taking travel, accommodation and tickets into account, I doubt I spend more than I would if I went abroad for a fortnight on a 'proper' holiday.

Never really thought about it - flattered, I guess? But I don't really care that much what they think.

Given the setlists it'd likely be enough to cover two prior tours worth of gigs anyway.
