We Were Never Told discussion
Seeing as there's not yet a thread for this little gem. Surely one of the best James acoustics yet done. Backing vocals ruin it a bit but the guitar chords are classic James, bit of Tolerate, bit of PFAYM bit of everything really. And his singing of the word 'beautiful' just makes me melt.
Thoughts?

I think it's pretty much the weakest James acoustic solo song released. They've been really samey for throughout the PFAYM period, and to an extent SATT period as well, but at least each one had some minor sonic element to make it stand out in a small way. This one doesn't. It just sounds a filler thingy thrown together at five minutes, which it probably is. Utterly average.
I kinda wish they'd actually stop releasing these sorts of things for a while, James is obviously running out a bit on ideas how to pull them off now that pretty much each single is guaranteed to have one. They used to be rarer and as a result each one was very unique, but now they're just getting a bit more samey with each new one.

Hmm, dunno, I prefer it a lot to Slow Delays or whatver it was called, that was the weakest one, this is nothing special but is just really nice in all ways, sounds like he put effort into the vocals if not the melody.

Slow Reflections/Strange Delays wasn't particularly exciting either, IMO.

I kinda think it would have been cool to re-record something for this greatest hits, not an average cover and more samey ppfaym bsides...i loved the bsides for satt, but these do nothing for me.

I wanted them to re-record "New Art Riot"

This. The lyrics are awful and it's not that special, but then it's only a b-side.

Slow Reflections/Strange Delays and We Were Never Told are both lovely in my book!

It's another 'blah' average track for me I'm afraid and James' voice sounds really ropey.

I'm not a big fan. The last good (moslty) acoustic B-side that James did was Fearless Punk Ballad...which is one of the finest Manic's B-sides ever.
I havn't been that keen on things like 1404, Strange Delays or this....they just sound like they've been put together in 5 minutes
