A bit less daring than the last time they played that venue.

Well, the extended line-up works much better when playing Cure songs. Even Nasmyth sounds good.

Oh yes, and the whole experience was much nicer without the background videos they used elsewhere on the tour - less distraction and I found them a bit tedious tbh.

Well I enjoyed that a lot more than I thought I was going to! I was so glad everyone stood up and we managed to move forwards to a couple of rows from the front in the aisle (our seats were about half way back in the front stalls, but we saw other people moving forwards, so thought screw it, why not?!).
The Cure cover made a nice change and I thought they did a good job of it. I actually didn't even notice they hadn't played YLAINE until afterwards, so that goes to show how much I didn't miss it The tease of Sleepflower was nice too. It was great to see Nicky; I wasn't expecting him to be there in the circumstances. I enjoyed The Anchoress as support too, although there were loads of empty seats for her set and it didn't really fill up properly until about 5 minutes before the Manics came on. I didn't take many pictures at all and the ones I did take were mostly rubbish, but here are a handful anyway: Last edited by Abstract Unknown Girl; 20-06-2018 at 14:21. |

Really enjoyed that gig
Was a bit worried because we ended up in the back row of the side stall bits and there were a few tall people in front of us who would completely block our view if they stood up which isn't great when it's seated and you can't really move far! Luckily they all stayed sat down apart from during ADFL and we all stood up in the back row so we had a great view! I enjoyed The Anchoress and LOVED Inbetween Days.

Well, this was surprisingly a good gig, considering it was seated! The wife and I were in attendance for this one and we had a pretty decent view, almost dead centre just behind the mixing desks. Nasmyth was sat right in front of us with his family for the support act, didn't bother saying hello (more on him later). The Anchoress was pretty good although her sound wasn't the best, couldn't quite make her vocals out although she impressed my wife enough to buy her album.
Now, I wasn't sure if this was intentional but when the Manics came on stage and everyone saw Nicky there, it looked like everyone stood up and gave him a standing ovation - now, this could have just been because people were going to stand anyway, but it looked good nonetheless! Gig itself was pretty standard fare but really good to hear the new stuff in a more intimate setting. Not familiar with the song they covered but it was my wife's favourite Cure song, so she was happy. LBN with The Anchoress on vocals was pretty good, not heard her sing it in the flesh before, as was the other one she sang on. No real surprises other than that, except for the brief excerpt of Sleepflower. There was one funny part in the gig where James sang a line (I recall it being quite an angry line), turned around, pointed at each of the touring members and then pointed at his arse. Not sure what he was trying to imply there!! Bumped into Dave Eringa and his lovely wife afterwards and he recognised me from Facebook (even though he got my name slightly wrong), which was cool! Had a brief chat and he seemed really pleased with how the gig went. Met up with some lovely people afterwards (Deetsy being one!) and waited around for the band afterwards but they didn't show unfortunately. Did see Nasmyth walk past me with his family while we were waiting, a couple of us did say hello but he blanked us - second time he's done that to me, the first time was in 2001 after the LRS performance at CD:UK, not too far from the Royal Festival Hall incidentally, and I haven't forgiven him or forgotten that either! Should have slapped him on the back of the head when he was sitting in front of me

Me and a lad from NME were eying up the bass before they came on. He said "That's not the bass that Nicky would play" and I agreed saying "Yep, thats definitely the precision bass of a session player". After screaming my head off when Wire walked on, I turned to him and said "Show's what we fucking know! hahah"

Possibly Hold Me Like A Heaven where Nick and Wayne were obviously too loud in James' mix, so he pointed to both then pointed down to indicate to the soundman - thats the only time i can think of
