Wht is the general consenus on Richeys status as dead or alive on this forum.
.....without upsetting anyone? While I can understand peoples obsession with him because I think largley of the ambiguity of his status as alive or dead I think it is 100% safe to say he is dead you just have to look at his behaviour before his death. While I like to feel he is still alive and will make some kind of miraculous come back like Dot Cotton, there is too much in his behaviour leading up to his death that makes it almost impossible to say he is not dead. Richey is dead in body but a bit like the way people are talking about Michael Jackson his music lives on. I think everyone should accept Richey is gone, imo.

Part of me likes to think he is still alive and has committed the perfect disappearance, but the logical, rational part of me thinks he's dead.
I never thought I'd see the day when Richey got compared to Dot Cotton...

i haven't seen EastEnders in 20 odd years. i believe my favourites, Arthur Fowler and "horny" Pete Beale are gone, what happened to Dot?
as for Richey, it is an exceptionally emotive subject for anyone with a love for the Manics (ie all on this forum, really). i can't see how he is still with us in the world, but by the same margin i just hope that he's at one with himself, wherever he may be.

He committed suicide in 1995.

No body and no evidence makes me think he didn't commit suicide in 1995. But for all the speculation in the world I just don't know. As for whether he's alive or dead now you might as well toss a coin for an opinion.
More importantly, is Dot Cotton dead? I never thought I'd see her used as an example of a great comeback. Say Jesus, Cher, Take That or something, but Dot Cotton??? |

I find the oddities surrounding his disappearance, as well as the lack of a body, too compelling to believe that he definitely committed suicide in 1995. However, there is very little, if any evidence to suggest that he's still alive today. If he is, he's pretty selfish when you think about it. I completely understand that when you're suffering depression at a serious level, you don't believe that you'd be missed and so those you leave behind aren't always a factor in your decisions, but if he was still alive now, he'd be pretty selfish to have never let his friends or family know that he's okay.
That said, a part of me would love to believe that he's out there somewhere, at peace with himself at last, but as the years go on, it gets harder and harder to think that he isn't dead now.

He's also in a position now, if he is alive, that he couldn't come back if he wanted to. Can you imagine the frenzy with the tabloid press? He'd never get another day's respite. It would be a total circus. |

This probably sums up my point of view. The small details we know about his life in the days before he disappeared seems to me to suggest that he had something he wanted to do or somewhere he wanted to go. I don't think he jumped off the bridge on 1st February, and I don't think suicide was on his mind, but this is purely my opinion of course, not cold hard fact. As to whether he is still around somewhere if he did disappear I doubt we'll ever know.
