It was really good fun, loads of friends there, Manics fans including FDers past and present laughing at footage of their much younger selves on the barrier or posing with Nicky for photos after gigs. Went on for longer than expected, over 2 and a half hours including the 4-song PPF gig footage at the start and the Q & A afterwards.

Got to talk to Elizabeth and Kurt after and offer them a drink - least I could do for putting me in their film. And my memory was correct from the unofficial showing a couple of years back in London - I do unwittingly 'introduce' the infamous James Cooks A Fry-Up For Some Reason scene. I asked them about that in Q & A at the end (essentially - WHY?!) and they seemed initially baffled by the question but said that when filming 'off-duty James' he resisted their ideas to film him in a guitar shop or something similar (too obvious, too awkward), and said he'd cook them lunch and they could film that! Which is a very James thing to do.

So yeah, a good night, a few drinks, and kids - if you're buying the DVD, do it off the No Manifesto website not Amazon. Sod the small pint-of-lager price difference, more goes to the film-makers themselves and less to tax-dodging MegaCorp types. Elizabeth and Kurt have dug in for the long-haul on this project, done a fine piece of work and I'd say they deserve the good reviews (NME 8/10 - better than a few Manics albums! ) and a couple of quid for their efforts.

Enjoy the other screenings guys. Might be a few tickets left for Manchester tonight by the way.

I saw it last night with a Q&A with the director, it's interesting because I was interviewed twice for it about twelve years ago(but I didn't make the cut). I think it was intriguing in terms of the relationship between the band/fans, I like the fact that the contributions weren't your usual expert Manics commentators/critics and the fans who actually know the band the best, and that part was drawn affectionately. I enjoyed much of the insights into the personalities behind the three (Nicky's shed, Their love of Wimpy burgers, Sean is into guns, who knew?!), Richey's disappearance was handled well, the banter between them and yes again the fan contributions(I recognised so many fans, some from here some from old manics fan boards). But I think it could have been better edited there was a lot that wasn't needed, also the sheer gap between the footage of the band and release(I know there were various reasons for this) hampered its relevance somewhat.

I second this, it's much better to pay directly to the indies than to prop up a bloated tax avoiding corporate monster.

Ha ha I have been a fan for over 20 years but Sean's love of firearms, seems to have been a blind spot for me, maybe I haven't been paying enough attention to old Mooro! I knew he was into gadgets and formula One but when he got out this big shot gun with a sight on it, I was surprised I must say!

I third the buying directly from the No Manifesto guys too! Oh by the way if you go to any of the screenings be sure to remember that there's a four song extra segment from the SATT tour (I believe) before the actual film proper starts, I was a bit confused by this as Elizabeth(director) didn't mention this beforehand only afterwards....

If Amazon is so evil, why put it on there?

The more sales it gets on Amazon, the higher up the various Amazon charts it goes. The higher up the Amazon charts it goes, the more it gets noticed.

any highlights or amusing or shocking moments that people liked? Was there something mentioned years ago about Sean bitching about fans saying Underdogs was crap or something? What was said there exactly?

Sorry for the confusion. The four-song concert feature from the Past Present Future tour was listed in the details for the Cardiff screening on the website but you're right, it should have been mentioned, and we will be sure to keep that in mind at future screenings that we attend. With that said, however, the decision to show the four-song concert feature is being made by each individual cinema and not by us, so some people will see it and some won't.

If the screening you attend starts with A Design For Life, you will be seeing the concert feature before the film. Otherwise, the first thing you will see will be a screen that says 'WibblyWobbly Productions Presents'.

There is a possibility that some theatres will choose to show the concert feature after the film; again, this is their decision and not ours. We will try to keep the listings at nomanifestofilm.com/screenings updated with this information but that might not be possible.

I saw it at the Cornerhouse tonight, the place was packed out, and a decent number of people stayed behind for the Q&A.

It was a very different film to the one I saw in Sheffield a few years ago - both tighter and more varied. The humanity of the band, and of the band / fan bond was beautifully documented.
