Christ, having translated the page no wonder I didn't figure it out!
Invisible Armies is great but it's so utterly not an MSP song, which is rather surreal. Primitive Painters is very nice, starts quite old-school sounding and Nirvanaesque but builds into something rather beautiful. Love the post-chorus guitar part. On balance Primitive Painters takes it.

Great, thank you! I used Google's page translator and it spit me out after 20 seconds. Even still that was mighty confusing, the translator was telling me to shake 100mb files, rather odd.
Well I wasn't that big a fan of either of them, but knowing Manics songs they will be all I am playing in about 4 days. Last edited by Zeroslav; 12-05-2009 at 22:41. |

Okay, already listened to them both.
Dunno about the original but the Felt cover sounded pretty good and I think it fits the JFPL era. I liked Alien Orders / Invisible Armies too even though it is an obvious filler, I bet James loved those guitar riffs too much for not using them in a proper song. |

James' voice is incredible on Primitive Painters. Both are pretty good, even if AO/IA felt a little incomplete.
Also, was AO/IA written earlier (1993?) and then not used, or am I making this up? |

James: 'Has Albini gone to poker?'
Sean: 'Yes.' James: 'Woot, woot! Quick, let's get this done before he comes back!' Sean: 'He must never know about this. You told him Nicky was going to sing it.' |

Alien Orders with lyrics and a growly JDB vocal would have been a good song for the album...
Primitive Painters is likely one of their best cover they've done, I think.

Yeah Alien Orders Invisible Armies was going to be recorded around GATS time apparently (read it on a thread in FD), probably been changed lots since obviously.

Alien Orders - disappointing because it's a damned fine riff and with a vocal it would've been a killer b-side. But without a vocal, it seems a wasted opportunity.
Primitive Painters - good cover. Again, very much b-side material but a fun listen.

It makes sense to just be an instrumental and cover really, is fair on people who aren't from Japan who have endure a record company with a policy of tacking less good songs on the ends of albums so they can rip people off. I'll buy the album one day when have more money, but can live without it for a while considering I wouldn't be missing out on anything special or Richey-esque.
