I've tried. God knows I've tried, to love that album, but everything after the first four tracks bar CA and maybe TRG and ILTFA, just leaves me cold.

they're unique even when they show someone else's influence on some songs but just to play a bit...

baby elian - new order
black dog on my shoulder - burt bacharach (horses and starlight also)
song for departure - keane
evidence against myself - oasis
engage with your shadow - throbbing gristle
she is suffering - suede
4ver delayed - the police
no surface all feeling - pixies
miss europa - jamiroquai
dead martyrs - joy division
marlon JD - billy idol
william's last words - lou reed
it's not war - smashing pumpkins
the girl who wanted to be god - lighthouse family

My boyfriend said EMG (the album) reminds him a bit of Morrissey.

Miss Europa reminds me very much of the late 70's pop group The Dooleys.

All We Make Is Entertainment - Bruce Springsteen (see also Little Baby Nothing and all of The Great Western)

Going off topic a bit, the riff from Greenway, a new song by The Fall, reminds me of Revol

This is an incredibly bizarre comparison list.

So only five of the twelve tracks leave you feeling cold? That sounds like a half-decent album rather than a shit one!

Oh hang on, ah I see, the verse of It's Not War sounds a bit like Tonight Tonight by Smashing Pumpkins.

Maybe the melody......... maybe. A little. By that argument it has more in common with Steps than Smashing Pumkins. I was going with SOUNDS like. As in the SOUND, not the tune

I mean the guitar arpeggio in the verses of It's Not War/Tonight Tonight which are a bit similar, I assume that's what was meant.
