I've always assumed it must be because of the lyrics, because musically it's cut from the same cloth as Faster, Yes and PCP, maybe not as good as the first two but hardly a travesty of them..
Nicky has said he doesn't know what Richey was trying to say in the lyrics, which isn't necessarily a cardinal sin for a lyricist, but I doubt it would generally be a recommendation in the Wire's book.
But spelling this out would mean in effect having a go at someone who can't answer back, so I guess on reflection they have to publicly say they're okay with it...

No, but you do make a compelling argument (particularly the boobies).

The best thing about Revol is that it is the easiest Manics song to play on guitar, so you can very quickly think "wow, I can play like JDB".

I have never disliked Revol, and I've been wanting to see it live for years, which is partly why Saturday was such a special night. However, it's not as good as Faster, AOP, OWA, DITS, PCP, FSSP (that's 4st 7lbs), IWATTTFODIWWFA, Yes, Mausoleum, TIHOE...

Okay, it's challenging This Is Yesterday for my 13th favourite song on the album. Still great, though

Incidentally, what do people think he sings during the last chorus? "Revol, [something here] Revol, Lebensraum, Kulturkamp, Raus Raus, Fila Fila." I can't decide if it's "surrender", "suck on my", or maybe even something that makes sense?

the best is Faster and I really don't know why are we discussing which song is the best on THB.

Because obviously Revol is a better song than Faster and the best song on THB, isn't it?

it's no Faster, Yes or This Is Yesterday for me, but it's not bad.

just how extensive is the band's slagging off of the song? off the top of my head, the only anti-Revol comment i can recall was James simply saying that he "never, ever wanted to play it again live" about 10 or so years ago?

Think in the past its production issues they have with the song. James has professed a preference for the US mix of revol (fairly sure the quote was 'if we ever put it out again it will be the US mix' this was about FD time from memory though and it was clearly forgotten) from memory again the 'thin' production of the intro was mentioned by James as a big annoyance
