Nicky's Vocals

In light of PFAYM and its demos, have people's opinions of Nicky's singing altered? I was never a major fan but I felt he put in a good performance on the PFAYM recordings.

He shouldn't have gone anywhere near JFPL, but apart from that, I generally enjoy his performances. I actually think The Future Has Been Here For Ever (not my lack of "4" there) sounds excellent with his voice.

It certainly has its place. That place shouldn't have been on JFPL, though...

I said okay in small doses. I think he sings best on Dying Breeds it certainly suits his voice quite well.

An absolute disgrace of a voice and should never have ever been given the license to do anything vocally.

I also think the Future Has Been Here 4 Ever suits him and it's one of his best vocals, but I think the music and the choir help him out with that.

Novotel was fine too as was WLW.

But I don't like the way in which they think he needs to have one vocal for each campaign now - they know more than one (bar KYE) vocal would be too much so why keep running with this gimmick?

I always thought Nicky's songs were musically amongst the most interesting numbers on the respective albums. TFHBH4E is the only original song on PFAYM and despite the hate for Wattsville Blues I consider it to be one of their greatest songs.

Nick's voice suits certain tracks. I mean, he couldn't have sung 'Tolerate' but would 'William's Last Words' have worked if James had sung it? Or 'The Future'?

This. But why has James not realised this yet? Apparently, he was the one who said 'Nick, you do the vocals!' on TFHBH4E.

Anyone know whether this is true? I would have thought that Nicky probably wrote this song intending that he would sing it? Just a hunch, it's a little bit all over the place in a similar vein to Wattsville Blues.

i voted for excellent cos i really like a lot of his songs even tho' the vocals aren't the best. He's difinitely getting better. If there was a *good* option between ok and excellent i would've gone for that

This. It's just such a wasted opportunity. I understand the sentiment behind Nicky singing on WLW but had James done it he would pissed all over him from an almighty height.
