Q Best of the Manics
Apologies if it has been mentioned before, but this month Q Magazine has a feature entitled "The Real Best Of". Yes, Q in compiling another list shocker, but this one has a bit of a twist. This list is supposedly compiled by experts who have picked "the hidden gem, the neglected classic and even the misunderstood hit".
Needless to say, Q staples such as U2 and Radiohead are in, but so to are the Manics. The list for each band are selected by a different "expert" and consist of ten songs in an album format (complete with album name). Simon Price compiled "Assasinated Beauty" and it looked like this: Motown Junk Motorcycle Emptiness Sleepflower Comfort Comes Faster Yes A Design For Life Judge Yr'self Your Love Alone is Not Enough All is Vanity Whereas I agree with some of the selections, I think the choices are a little obvious in places. I don't think you really get the full story of the Manics from Simon Price's list and my personal choices for "Assassinated Beauty" would have been: You Love Us (Heavenly Version) Repeat Sleepflower 4st 7lbs Sepia Ready For Drowning Judge Yr'self 1985 Your Love Alone is Not Enough William's Last Words Would be interested to see other lists and thoughts. |

Any list of a Manics' best of has to include MJ, ME, F, DFL, Tolerate, and YLAINE.
You can pick the other 4 to your hearts content. Nice shout on YLU Heavenly. |

Excellent choices by Simon Price, it's difficult to only pick ten Manics songs as you'll inevitably be leaving out some obvious ones (Tolerate, YLU etc). I'd maybe have left out Faster seeing as Comfort Comes and Yes are in the list and had Prologue To History instead. And maybe FP:TL as the JFPL track.

After National Treasures, I can't bring myself to contemplate any singles. If I had to make a playlist to listen to today, it would be...
Spectators of Suicide (Heavenly) Crucifix Kiss Nostalgic Pushead Hibernation The Girl Who Wanted To Be God Mr Carbohydrate Black Dog On My Shoulder The Convalescent Solitude Sometimes Is Leviathan I'm still not going to listen to it today. Maybe tomorrow... |

I did flick through this magazine in a stand before getting chased away by the man in the kiosk! I couldn't find anything about the Manics in there. Typical me not looking hard enough. Ten eh? OK.
Motorcycle Emptiness A Design For Life PCP Your Love Alone Is Not Enough for the singles and Archives Of Pain (I know Yes is brilliant, but this is just as better) 1985 Journal For Plague Lovers Sleepflower Golden Platitudes Intravenous Agnostic And I want to pick another ten already! |

Wish I'd put Slow Reflections/Strange Delays in there as well now! Gah! Too many fantastic songs to choose from!
