They tend to take a year or two between albums these days, given they have kids and whatnot. But then, they had that longer than usual period of inactivity prior to RIF, so maybe they have a store of unreleased songs? I dunno, but I'm not holding my breath.

Last time they announced the album in November and released in April the following year. Agonising as that was - and it was admittedly to long flog arena dates - I wouldn't be surprised if they tried something similar again.

Which is still comparatively short by most contemporary artists' standards. Still, we had a one-two with JFPL / PFAYM and RTF / Futurology, so there's nothing to say they can't knock one out pretty quickly. But as there's nothing to suggest there's actually an album around the corner I reckon we'll still be waiting until next year.

I wish they'd move on from the traditional big album arena tour bollox. Just release the music when its ready. Do smaller shows. Stop playing You Stole the Sun. James play more guitar. Less backing tracks. No Hold me like a Heaven (sorry lads it's shit). More videos like the Xfm Masses/Distant Colours/IB weird ones. Stop trying so hard.

"Acoustic bass". Not the same.

Indeed - I thought the sleeve said double bass but it's been a few years since I looked over it!

I was thinking about this the other day and if are in the process of recording stuff, I reckon we could see something fairly early next year, although they do have a habit of releasing stuff in around April or May before a tour.

If you look back at previous years, there were usually reasons why there had been gaps - for example, between LB and SATT they weren't happy with the response that LB had received and used the gap to release an EP and solo albums, so although the gap was less than three years, we still got a few things to keep our ears busy. Between Postcards and RTF we got a greatest hits album and a few more tours so that slowed them down, plus RTF and Futurology were recorded more or less during the same period, so that made sense. More recently the gap between Futurology and RIF was down to the studio closure but we still got a few new pieces of music (Feels Like Heaven, Together Stronger) and a James film soundtrack, as well as a few reissues/tours. This time round, we've had a reissue for Truth and an impeding tour but aside from that, there hasn't been any new music released since last year, so who knows? It's quite possible that they started working on things since they stopped touring last year. They're fairly quick with getting things recorded, so if it does happen, I'm sure we'll hear about it soon.

James' "recorded quickly" comment is heartening, hopefully to mean that it won't be as overproduced and polished as some of their more recent stuff, and maybe a bit more raw.

I'd expect something released to enable a fall/winter tour and then another one come May/June 2020.

I'd be very surprised if they'd wait to start the next tour cycle in May 2020.
