The intro from this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itF3WhfFU70 turns up in Mayakovsky.

Also the 'hatred and failure' bit in BTCATB really reminds me of something, thought at first it was the 'Sterile like a line of piss' bit in CTRNR and it might be but I have a nagging feeling it's something else.

One of my friends said the last 40 seconds or so of BTCATB sound like the chorus to The Bed by Lou Reed.

Yup, that would have been me (no apologies necessary). I still wish James would launch into "attack, attack, attack is what we lack" - that would have been such a classic "Masses against the Classes" line!

There are a couple of other moments that remind me of other songs, but I can't quite put my finger on it...

Oh, yes, "Between the Clock..." is very Prefab Sprout, not because of the music, but because Gartside's voice sounds so much like Paddy McAloon's. Only a tiny, tiny step away from downright kitsch.

I can't believe nobody's noticed the intro to Last Jet to Moscow sounds like the intro to Primary by The Cure yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xrZ61cuKLk

Again, not in terms of the music, but that line in SPLAM - "We could have been heroes, but failure's more fun" - always reminds me (apart from Bowie) of "Road to Joy" by Bright Eyes, when Conor Oberst goes: "I could have been a famous singer / If I had someone else's voice /But failure's always sounded better / Let's f**k it up boys, make some noise!" Glorious!

Yeah I noticed that. I remember Nicky talking about I'm Wide Awake when it was released as well

Likewise. It reminds me of another Manics song, possibly a bit similar to a verse in Removables? It's been bothering me since I heard it first though.

As soon as I heard Empty Motorcade I immediately thought the first 45secs before the 'we were young' sounded a bit like Muse...don't know if it's a particular song though or just the style?
