Manics fan in 2005? Please read on -

Hi there,
In 2005, the Holy Bible took the number 1 slot in a poll undertaken by Newsnight to find their viewers favourite album: (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programme...ew/4746117.stm)

I am wondering, if at the time, this result was ever announced on the show itself? I have searched online but can't seem to find any evidence for this. Failing that was this announced anywhere else on television or radio at the time? I wondered if any fans here might remember anything from around this time?

Thank you for reading.

I do indeed remember watching a segment and panel discussion on the album on Newsnight, but it's very hazy now.

Automatik, this was online or on the BBC show itself? Was Paxman part of the discussion? Anything you can remember would be gladly received.

It was on the show itself - that culture segment, perhaps Newsnight Extra. It's very long ago now and I can't recall the exact details. I'm not sure if it was hosted by Paxman, Kearney or Wark. There was a music journalist on discussing the album, but I don't remember who.

Sorry, that's all I can recall.

Yes, I'd be very interested in seeing the discussion again too.

It was on Newsnight Review and, unless I'm mistaken/saying the unsayable, the vote was swayed by a mass vote from FD people, which music journo John Harris (I think) basically suspected on air.

Surprised that the Ateaseweb community didn’t really drive OK Computer over the finish line to be honest. Them were some mental fans!

Did the band ever make any public statements about THB winning that honour?

I seem to remember them mentioning it in a couple of interviews but it may just be wishful thinking. Or maybe I'm confusing it with other journalists who've mentioned it.

The music journo was Paul Morley. The other results were also discussed. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programme...17.stm#results. I don't recall any discussion about it being a loaded vote.

'Newsnight editor Peter Barron also gave his own response to the results: [...] "On the whole we're not big Manics fans, but I understand they like us."'

Rather arrogant way of putting it, no matter how true it might be.
