'Most important' Manics' album?
Thought I'd start a little discussion...
Which Manics' album do you class as 'most important' with reference to their career? For example, some might say The Holy Bible as it cemented them as a critical force, some would say either EMG or TIMT as they led to commercial success and so on. For me though, it has to be SATT. Although the album hasn't aged well for me and I rarely listen to it, I think that since that album came out, general press and public feeling towards the band has shifted from 'why are they still going?' to 'they're actually one of the great recent bands'. After the boom and bust period of EMG/TIMT through to KYE/LB era, I think many people expected them to fade away like other similar guitar based bands. With SATT's (relative) commercial success though, people started taking them seriously again and I think that the band now get a lot more respect generally. If they get another #1 this afternoon I think it will partly be due to SATT's legacy, even though it's not a favourite of mine - but I reckon it's the most important Manics' album - at least with regard to the longevity of their career - in many respects. Thoughts?

The Holy Bible. I don't want to explain, because if you don't see my point already, you're never going to understand what I mean. Just... THB is the most important.

There are 3 of them:
1) The Holy Bible - brought them the cult status 2) TIMTTMY - brought international success 3) SATT - brought back mass communication

The band probably would have been dropped, then disbanded if EMG had been a commercial failure. So that.

Everything Must Go. if not for the success and re-establishment of the band from that album, they would have been little more than a curiosity footnote in rock history. that doesn't take away from THB, it's because of the success of EMG that THB got remembered by more than the more dedicated enthusiasts for the album on here.

while SATT made them popular again i think EMG is the most important. Even at the depths of the kye/lifeblood era people still acknowledged that as their best. Without it they might not still be releasing albums today

GATS - the band were meant to split after GT and they came back with this immense stadium rock album. Genius.

Think SATT is their least most important album.
For me the most important is Generation Terrorists, for what they aspired to be. They've made greater since with less faults, but always a slight compromise on the band they had set out to be. I think they should remaster the album - or even re-record some and its b-sides to finally get the double album they intended. |

It's got to be Everything Must Go. I don't think they'd still be here now if they hadn't made that album.

EMG, Truth, Journal and Postcards. In that order I think.
