Is This The Best Time To Be A Manics Fan?
THB in full at gigs.
Futurology album released this year. No Manifesto being released next January. Is it me, or is this one of the best times to be a Manics fan? It was quite good to be one in 96 and 98 as well. |

It probably won't ever get as good as this for the rest of their career, so savour it.

No. Futurology isn't up there as a great album, No manifesto is good but ?? and THB gigs won't be as good as in 94

I would say 96 with the release of EMG and the tours were the best as as a fan from the early days we were just waiting around wondering whether they would stop recording altogether, change their name, etc etc

THB live doesn't appeal to me.
Futurology was bland and overrated. No Manifesto is interesting, but only as interesting as any other old documentary about where the band were at a certain stage of their career - unlikely to contain big hints about the future so less interesting for that. Imagine being a fan in 1994 and hearing the THB songs for the first time... or 2005 and the PPF tour, or even the release of JFPL. For me each of those seem more exciting times to be fans. But hey, if other people are loving this period in the band's history, wonderful |

I shall answer in the form of song pastiche.
#In 1985 No Manics to see live So much yet to hear Anticipation versus fear In Two-Zero-One-Five Back catalogue is nice Lots of awesome tunes But less to look forward to...? In Two-Zero-One-Five In Two_Zero_One-Five

I was singing that to myself just now Porco, nicely done!
I think it's a good time to a Manics fan, had a good album this year, they did a tour in March/April, THB re-release (not personally getting it but whatever) and tour (not going but sure it will be good), and No Manifesto out very soon which we've been all been wanting to see for 8/9/10 years!

The best time to be a manics fan is whenever you first get into them.

The best moment to be a fan is always going to be now. You always have what they've already done and you can ignore what you don't like. There's no such thing as too much.

Hmm....
The Bible gigs will not be like 1994 - stop kidding yourselves if you think they'll be as raw as back then. They'll be enjoyable but life affirming? nah, I doubt it. No Manifesto FINALLY being released? Who cares? sure, it's a decent watch but isn't it just a little bit dated now? 2015 will surely be a fairly quiet year for the manics - I would think we'll get another re-issue, a THB castle gig but we won't be getting any new music till at least 2016.

98/99 was the best time to be a Manics fan, for me. 2006/2007 was pretty cool too.

It's a good time to be a fan, but not the greatest. If anything there is the danger of the band being over exposed for the last 18 months. Silly as it sounds I'll be happy for them to go quiet after the THB gigs this month.

As a new fan I've no idea if it's the best time to be MSP fan, but I'm enjoying picking through there back catalogue.

I think 1994-1997 was the one period you could get away with admitting your MSP fandom without being made to feel ashamed, especially 1996-1997 when they were surfing the wave of Richey sympathy and even the haters couldn't bring themselves to hate. 1998 started out okay too.

Quote:
Best time for gigs was EMG, the crowds were mental. But for the band in general either right now or GT, i.e. now that there's lots of material or when they were still discovering themselves and we didn't know what was ahead. |
