Tips for the Faint

Okay, so Kate has a tendency to become a little faint at gigs. I can attest that the Manics shows here were a bit more tame than they are over there, and I want to make sure she stays conscious to enjoy the gigs later this month. Anybody got any tips?

Water, plenty of water. One trick I have is to put a bottle or two in my coat/hoodie pockets and tie it around my waist before I get frisked, this way they hang too low and don't get found!

stand slightly more to the left of the barrier, the crush isn't usually as bad that end, (but of course the view is more sideways cross the stage) also take the water tey hand out each time they do, and make sure that you eat before the gig, which gigs are you going to? some venues are worse than others, Glasgow the other night wasn't too hot, where as edinburgh on sat night was absolutely roasting

I found the opposite, I was much hotter in Glasgow! But like you said, I was much further over to the right (i.e. away from the centre) in Edinburgh so that's likely why.

I would suggest taking some kind of sugary snack with you to eat after the support.

Lots of water. My brother fainted at the last Manics gig we went to in Manchester in Dec 2007 during Design For Life, I thought he was dying or something cos he staggered lifelessly into me and I was holding him up and shouting at him and I had to force him forward to the barrier and get pulled over by the security guys. Loved the fact nobody helped me despite a load of people around just watching us which made my blood boil. So yeah anyway, lots of water.

I know it seems obvious but as Everlasting said just drink lots and lots of water and eat properly throughout the day, and take every bit of water offered during the gig. I think people can worry about needing the toilet during the gig and don't drink and that's when fainting accidents happen.

i must admit after having two kids my bladder aint the strongest so i don't tend to drink much after lunchtime before the gig, go to the loo about an hour before doors, then just take all the water they offer at the gig, have only ever once felt like i was going to go and that was 2nd row at leeds uni on the ppf tour, hence why i try to get on the barrier as at least you have air in front of you

I seem to remember a few people fainting at that gig. The Refectory is one of the hottest, sweatiest venues I think I've ever been to, so I'm not surprised people did.

I can only echo what other people have said. Make sure you drink plenty of water, don't go on an empty stomach and the sides on the barrier are better than in the middle for crushing.

I think the only time I've felt like I was going to faint was at Green Day in 2005 at Milton Keynes Bowl. We'd been sat in the sun all day and I was quite dehydrated, so it was probably my own fault.

also if u are on the barrier or stable enough to, rest your drink or water given out on your wrists/ elbow crease or side of neck.... it's a trick thats really helped a few club casualties over the years and keeps me on my feet x

actually thats a pretty good tip, I never drink at manics gigs, i might have one drink at lunchtime if i'm not queueing all day but generally manics nights are sober nights, i think the time at leeds i nearly fainted i had had a couple of drinks, neve again, so rock nd roll aren't I
