Brixton Academy venue info

Hi everyone,

Sorry for creating a new thread, but i do not really have time to surf through 30 pages of brixton gig discussion. I just have some general questions about the venue for some of those who have been there before:

1) how long is the walk to the tube station?

2) I have rear standing tickets, does that mean that there is no way i can get any further foward, even if i queue all day?

3) If the answer to question 2 is yes, then how early would you recommend being to get within the front 3 to 5 rows?

4) and how 'dangerous' is it outside the venue after the gig?

Many thanks,
Aled

2, Isn't that just what some venues call standing tickets?
see if the website has a chart.

I would say about 2 minutes but I have got short legs there's a sign leading you to the venue so it's easy to find
O2 make a special priority queue for the O2 network users. it goes like 1 user +1
I don't know what kind of ticket you have got but generally when people queue from about 2-3 o'clock they should get a decent place.
I've heard the barriers in Brixton are very tall so if you're small as I am, it might not be the best option.
what do you mean by saying 'dangerous' outside the venue after the gig? I'm 4ft 5 tall and I have never suffered any bigger inconvenience during the gig. I haven't been at many gigs though...

cheers guys.

Bluecat - the academy website shows that there are corridors through the standing area, therefore seperating it into blocks, so i assume that 'rear standing' is referring to the rear 4 blocks behind the corridor. I will ring them tomorrow to ask.

Deets - how could i forget about the o2 priority thing!!! thankyou so much . By dangerous, I mean, will you be mugged, or stabbed? lol. But i am hoping that 5000 people in the same place would deter people from doing that.

The part of the journey i am really worried about is being with my mate on a train that goes through Stratford, Romford, Billericy etc. lol. should be fine though

Could it be that's the scheme for "seated events", and in case of rock concerts they remove the chairs on the standing area?

There are definitely no limits on where you can stand, a standing ticket is a standing ticket no matter where, conisdering there were only standing and seated tickets on sale it would be unfair to then only let some people stand in certain places, area is fine, it's really quite nice between the venue and the station,it's a high road and there's loads of gig goers.

Hi Aled, I've been to this venue numerous times, so to answer your questions:

1) not far at all. Depending on your walking speed, I'd say 5-10 minutes tops.

2) The standing area is one big area, which isn't divided into blocks. You can stand wherever you like. The floor is sloped, so no matter where you stand, you get a good view (handy for someone like me who is the same height as Sean Moore).

3) Now this is like asking "how long is a piece of string". There is no set or definitive answer to this. From what I understand on this tour (I haven't been to any gigs yet, only going by what people have posted here), the queuing hasn't been as full on as it has for past tours, so mid-afternoon onwards I guess would be fine. Then again, you could turn up just as doors are opening, or after doors and you could still get a good spot. Like I said in 2), the floor is sloped, so you get a good view no matter where you are stood.

4) Depends on what you mean by "dangerous". Everywhere has it's good and bad areas. Trust me, as someone who has been to this venue numerous times, there will be a vast amount of people leaving this venue and walking towards the tube station, so you will NOT be alone.

There was no queue in Southend, even at 8pm when BSP came on - and it was sold out!

Just a heads up, saw Bunnymen there the other night and the security were stopping people who tried to film with their camera's or who were taking too many photos.

I was about 3 places in the priority queue behind you and about 7 or 8 spaces to your left on the barrier but was too scared to say hello

Once again, cheers people

Bloody hell!! That proves there is no definitive or conclusive answer to "what time should I q from if I want to be in <insert number> row".

I got to Southend at 6.30 and was about 10th in at doors open, but i doubt that will happen at London, as its a bigger gig, and people are coming from a further array of locations
