I think what they really need to do is have thier "KID A" phase. It seemed like it was about to happen around the Lifeblood era. I don't necessarily mean go all electronic but just play around with song structures a bit more. Verse chorus verse chorus can get a bit tedious!

That doesn't seem likely. Haven't you heard? There are only two versions of the Manics. All those other sounds they had were just a dream.

But you might sleep through the next album! Which will be them back to 'THB/JFPL style' again, probably.

I'd hope not. I'd like a nice melancholic album with actual good emotional stuff in. I'd like a more Truth style next.

Fuck no, any more strings and choirs, and it would sound like a fairground nightmare that would drive people insane on listening. Anything apart from SATT/Postcards 2 for me, realistically. Please.

We've had the misery/wicked humour and the euphoria. Time for a bit of melancholia again I think.

He whispers them into Nicky's ear when he's sleeping, and he wakes up and thinks he's had a McCartney "Yesterday" moment.

No one's stopping either Sean or James from writing lyrics. They might not be any good, or they might be great, but it'll stop Nick from getting complacent and lazy and give Sean and James a chance to develop in another area. I'd love to hear a Sean Moore lyric.

And why not, eh? A bit of apocalyptic angst might do the band a world of good. Sounds like a shoe-in for one of the '70 songs of hatred and despair'.
