Which Version Of Tiger Bay Is Better?
Bassey or the Manics Demo?

Don't really like either.

Probably Bassey's version, although I've only heard a live rendition when James was on stage playing guitar, thought it was quite beautiful and sweepingly grand. The demo I skipped half of it to get the solo but it's only a demo. Decent.

Genuinely prefer Bassie, it was written for her and sounds more poignant, plus her voice is still incredible. Like em both though.

Voted 'neither-they are both shit', although that is a somewhat harsher sentiment than I really intend, but the closest to what I think!
The song sounds like a song written on commision, not really a Manics song. Which of course it isn't supposed to be! It's a good professional song-writing job for another artist, nothing more. James puts an impressive amount of welly into the vocals for a demo. |

The Manics one, it has the Manics on.

Surely 'neither is better' is fairly meaningless? I mean they are different, therefore it should be possible to form an opinion which you like better, even you detest both of them? It's like saying 'what is worse - mushrooms or turnips?' - you might hate both of them, but if you were starving you'd probably eat one over the other wouldn't you?
Anyway, I really like the song and I think the Bassey version is better, just because it's fully produced and everything, but like I said in another thread I think a duet version (i.e. a properly studio recorded / mixed one with James also singing, not just the Proms thing) with a full orchestra would be great and probably end up being my favourite.
