Why would good album tracks, played with passion scare off fans anyway? If all you want is kareoke, listen to the CD .

And yes, they are still amazing live, just think about how amazing they could be!

We have to remember that they are now a band in their 40s and just their existence should be haled to the rafters!! They really dont do what other bands do. Try practicing 50 songs for a tour as that is what most on here want, and so do i!! But its just not possible. I play 35 songs for a gig in my covers band and after I m fooked so imagine how they would feel after a similar length set. I would've loved to hear Dont be Evil, AWMIE and full band with Nicky singing but hey ho. People ned to get over the fact that its not 1996 anymore and that this bands pure existence in itself is a reason to celebrate......................................... .

............. Would like a bit of Yourself though

But that's not what the OP was asking for. They rehearsed 42 songs, just change what they are...

Yes it goes down well enough but other stuff from the back catalogue would go down better. I don't see why they play it at practically every gig.

I blame going to see bands (some of who are indeed in their mid 40s) who do indeed play about 50 songs per stint of a tour. I expect better out of very good musicians, as much as people may like to laugh at Wire he could easily play most of the old Manics stuff and obviously the new album given his improvement and current ability on bass.

I dunno, being critical about a band sticking to an old set + 5 new songs sounds about right to me.

Rich 40 year old men thinking they can just do literally the exact same few things for years on end for all the money the fans keep throwing at them during the tour sounds pretty spoilt rotten to me.

I never got the chance to see the Manics live and I wouldn't give a fuck if they decided only to play their greatest hits. Some of you guys are a bit spoilt. Of course it's annoying if you go see a band 5 times and they always play the same set, but you should consider yourselves lucky that the band are still touring at age 40 and that most of you guys get the chance to see them touring.

Again that doesn't apply to everyone, I've not seen the Manics since 2005 because *drum roll* their sets are the same. Seeing them this year as a 3 album gap should hopefully mean they play 10 songs I've never heard before but given the setlists so far I think I'm frauding myself. I mean I'm excited but I am pretty much prepared to be let down by the performance (this happens for all bands with me if they do the same, not just Manics by the way).

But yeah, feel free to make everything black and white that you don't agree with.

I think nearly all fans who contributed to this thread do consider themselves lucky that one of their favourite bands still exist.
People having problems with the set during the PFAYM tour and other tours is perfectly understandable. Just because they have seen the band several times, doesn't mean they're not entitled to take issue with them. It's not like people are slating them for the sake of it. It's all fairly constructive and valid, most of time. And they only moan because they care.

I hope you manage to catch them during this European tour, next year.

It's not a case of people who go to every single gig of a tour getting pissed off. If I was rich, and more importantly, if they varied their setlists, I might consider it. I haven't seen them for over a year, and before that once maybe twice a tour. The greatest hits set worked well for the JFPL second set, but apart from that, it's a drag. I'm not suggesting they completely change over their setlist every single night, that would be ridiculous. All it would take it a couple of songs changed over for a rotation of maybe 3 or 4 songs over a tour. I know the stereotype of it is "oh, FFS, ocean spray again", but I don't think anyones suggesting they stop playing Ocean Spray for good- just not every single night for years. Switch it round a little bit every so often. The only surprise really is occasionally if they may play a new MJ intro. But really, I don't even see it as a "greatest hits" set, because there's so bloody many great songs/hits of theirs that don't get aired.

Meh, no one is not glad that they still exist...doesn't mean people can't comment on what they do, it's not spoilt rotten...maybe from the perspective of Australia where they come once every 11 years, but that's not the case in the UK. I don't understand why wanting them to play and be proud of their latest artistic production is spoilt either....we want them to succeed.

[QUOTE=counterlanguage;2154674]They've played Tristesse at practically every gig for the last 15 years - I'd be bored of it if I were them - and it's hardly a huge crowd favourite, so why stick with it?

My thoughts exactly !! `From despair` is much better but hardly played compared to that.
I think i could do without any hit to be honest. Now how good would that gig be?? Might get rid of the people who say `hope they play that handbags song` ha ha.

Bring on the Blackwood.
