Jet ???
Why the word jet in "last jet to leave moscow " who the hell says jet ?
"Flight " ( as in the first verse) or plane would have fitted and sounded better imo !!!! |

So what? Although to be honest I keep singing "flight" instead of "jet" but that's only cos I suck at remembering lyrics and make up my own stuff

The word choice adds a retro vibe for me. Sounds kind of communist.

Indeed, makes me think of the Tu-144 whenever I hear it, prettiest machine ever built. Sad it had to crash at a stupid capitalist air-show.
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tupolev...%D0%93-002.jpg Some of the electronics, especially at the beginning, are also indicative of this "jet-like" quality. That kind of optimism is gone from present technology. |

The song is a self referential one about champagne socialism - wealthy(ish) rockband trying to convey that they're socialist working class etc. and having the piss taken because they're obviously not. So the song is full of similar juxtapositions - a jet (wealthy mans plane) leaving Moscow (historically communist, perhaps not so much these days) is an example of that.

Have you tried singing your 'superior' version? It sounds awful, 'jet' it is.

This thread is confusing me slightly.
As OP says, James sings 'flight' before he sings the 'jet' of the title. Both are fine. And the song is called The Next Jet to Leave Moscow, not 'last'.

Think I've only heard the word 'jet' used twice and that was in the above song and 'Leaving on a Jet Plane' song
