The mp3 I have of it is 2.12. I'm sure it's 2.34 on the album. Bloody lovely song and the "God Only Knows" horn is gorgeous

Has anyone had a stab of the lyrics?

Apparently Nicky wrote this song by text message (!) as his family were unwell at the time so he didn't go to Berlin.

Builder Of Routines

I've sealed myself in
Laminated all of my skin
Cellotaped my world in bits
I must embrace paralysis

Only in you do we see ourselves
Only in you can we imagine an end
So sick and so tired of being 4 real
Only the fiction still has the appeal

Builder of routines
It makes me safe and clean
It crucifies parts of me
But never seems to make me bleed

Only in you do we see ourselves
Only in you can we imagine an end
So sick and so tired of being 4 real
Only the fiction still has the appeal

How I hate middle age
In between acceptance and rage
Democracy has sure made a fool out of me
But I am the builder of routines

______________________________________

n.b. I'm saying '4 real' for obvious historical reasons, even though I usually dislike using numbers for words… be interesting to see what the official lyrics say...

Best lyrics from the ones we have seen of this album. In my opinion.

I can actually hear what you mean by that, especially in the opening couple of lines. James' voice definitely sounds different on this track (not in a bad way).

It's alreet. Lovely musically but James's vocals seem a bit squeaky.

Yeah what's going on with James' voice in the high bits?

Not a bad track but I think the context of the record will make or break it. Did anyone else cringe a little bit at "so sick and so tired of being 4REAL"? I'm all for bands being self-referential but there comes a point where it becomes a little awkward... also when was the last time Wire was 4REAL, however you define that?

Why does this always happen when i'm working!? Tbh Wire is one of those lyricists where 90% of his words look like crap on paper but put them to a melody and life is blown into them. I have no doubt i'll be singing ''sick and tired of being 4real'' at the top of my lungs if i get tickets to Shepherds Bush!

Never, and that might just be the point? His desire to escape a legacy that really isn't his own?

I quite like, probably the least liked one, but lyrically I do like.

Glad they didn't decide to repeat the verse or Chorus again like they tend to do.
