Welcome To The Dead Zone - THE ALBUM!

I've just put this together for an old friend of mine, the album the Manics should've released in 2007 in my opinion!

1. The Vorticists
2. Love Letter To The Future
3. Welcome To The Dead Zone
4. Little Girl Lost
5. Morning Comrades
6. The Long Goodbye
7. Anorexic Rodin
8. 1404
9. Boxes and Lists
10. Heyday Of The Blood
11. Fearless Punk Ballad
12. You Know It's Going To Hurt

The Manics have always been a great b-sides band but the Send Away The Tigers era is the only era where the b-sides actually make up a whole album of quality tunes on their own that are better than the decent tunes + shallow lyrics of SATT. There is so much more depth to the lyrics on these b-sides! And I'd forgotten just how orgasmically good the chorus to "Boxes and Lists" is.

If you've never been into making your own MSP compilations, put this album together and give it a go - I'd love to hear your opinions. And if you enjoy it and want a cover for it, feel free to use the one I've made.

EDIT: As it's a cover, I haven't included "Red Sleeping Beauty" but for the record it's fucking awesome

well, the Manics included both Damn Dog and Working Class Hero on their albums so you should definitely add Red Sleeping Beauty to the list.

awesome album cover. Welcome To The Dead Zone is my absolutely favourite Manics b'side ever. well done!

Great pic for the cover! I immediately tracked down the original, it's wonderful, but it works brilliantly cropped for that shape

And great track listing too, I think opening and closing with the instrumentals is somewhat inspired (you know what I'm like with my love of instrumentals anyway…).

Yeah, I just wanted to find something that matched the idea I had in my head and that picture fit the bill perfectly.

It was Stu (tzb) and Khiz (FacelessSenseOfVoid) who convinced me to include the instrumentals. I wanted to try and strip back the number of tracks but, I have to admit, it plays wonderfully with those included.

I can't think of a single good album cover by the Manics! I think TIMT was the best in my opinion, pretty simple and taking in idyllic surroundings. Lots of bad covers, especially GT with its damn nipple.

To me the cover looks more like....

Manic Street Preachers: "Welcome to the Deadzone" for Xbox

eheheh

Yeah, I mean, looks like the cover for a video game.

Speaking of it, got a good idea. You might select one from the three characters, James, Nicky, Seon, and Richey is a bonus, a special hidden character you obtain if you find him.

Still so weird to me that the SATT b-sides are pretty good, while SATT is just awful. If only they would've switched things around a bit. This is great.

I know its cool to knock SATT for being a bit superficial and AOR cock-rock but I don't think the B-sides were overly strong really.

It made a good album, thanks for sharing it. The cover looks very Judge Dredd.

As a sidenote, anyone think The Vorticists sounded very Musey?
