It Is War Not Just The End Of Love

Dear Manic Street Preachers!
I checked Your dear website in 11:00am (Your time) on 28th October. The last news was about the postponed gig in Birmingham. Since I had a pair of ticket for Your that day's gig in Brixton (btw. very nice district I really cannot live without visiting it) I boarded an aircraft to London Heathrow then take a tube to Brixton and saw the gig was also postponed. What the fuck prevented You from letting me know (just via Your lovely website that for example let me know that Nicky Wire is on a NME list or what on time) a day before ir at least before noon? I'm not angry the gig was postponed, that happens from time to time. But this was really nice of You.

Fuck You.

Surely because at both 11am and the day before it wasn't cancelled they were still loading stuff into the venue, so why would they say it was then. It didn't get cancelled till about half 12. Yes there was always a risk with it, but surely boarding the plane you knew that and then its down to your coice of whether you risk it or not?

I know you probably want to vent but I'm not sure your soliloquy really needs it's own thread. I know you must be pissed off but as Amanda says it wasn't cancelled 'till half 12-ish, and they made all reasonable efforts to let folk know.

That's pretty silly time to cancell a gig. I thought (me idiot) that to check it at 11 a.m. prevented me of any risks. Well I had been naive and probably had thought too much of them so I paid my price. And no matter how silly or pathetic or non-important it sounds they'll pay too because that was the last time I've ever spent my money for anything connected to Manic Street Preachers.

Burn all your CDs. Then illegally download them. That'll teach 'em.

Yeah, I'd be annoyed too but when you've calmed down:

They cancelled the gig in Cardiff in 2004 at about 6:30pm, so really, 12:30 is pretty reasonable. I don't think James went to the doctors until yesterday morning so maybe they didn't know how serious it was until then.

Yes, surely he felt great on 27th and on 28th morning.
And surely he doesn't smoke to prevent this. (I think I'll be killed by CoJ now)

For me not.

Maybe he should have done it, they had already cancelled one gig.
Maybe it was just hard to decide and there were some bad decisions and I don't know what. But it doesn't seem fair to me. So I decided. This is free-market. And be sure I would never decided in a way that I'd find not fair to Manics.

I remember travelling home to Cardiff from Liverpool Uni to that one on a pretty expensive train ticket - and I couldn't make the re-scheduled date!

It's understandable that you are pissed off though. I know I was.

Grow up.
I understand it's a lot of money, I understand it's short notice.
But seriously, if he's ill he can't help that, and maybe, when you're ill, your own health before doing anything potentially harmful.
There's always a chance gigs get cancelled, don't take such a risk of flying out if you don't cater for the worst case scenario, especially when you knew there was a chance due to the postponing of the previous gig.
The band have no reason to answer to you or care what you think, I don't think James wants to be ill, that's life, and just accept it, sometimes bad things happen.

Anyway...

James is a consumate professional and you can be sure that if he could have performed, he would have.

It's never ideal to cancel gigs, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes, as shit as it may seem. They can't let every individual ticket-buyer know, and I've fallen victim to it previously (Cardiff, actually thought it was an elaborate joke until I saw the sign on the door) and it sucks, and the journey home was a horrible one.

They've not done it to upset you though, you can be sure that James will be feeling fucking horrible about it, not that it'll make you feel any better. But I'm sure once some time has passed you'll feel "better" about it.

The band really don't deserve this kind of vitriol directed at them, they are quite obviously genuinely apologetic about the postponements. They are not arseholes. Announcing the postponement was delayed because they wanted the gig to go ahead, for the very reason they knew people would be coming from all over to be there. We don't live in a utopia and we all take a risk when we buy tickets to an event that is months away no matter where we live. Be annoyed at the situation but not at the band.

Surely you must of suspected that the gig may have been postponed due to James' ill health? Assuming you did, was it not rather unwise to make the flight, risking a wasted journey to see a band that (im guessing) you've seen many times before and will no doubt see again in the future?

Yeah, it's shit it got canceled and everyone has every right to be pissed off about it, but come on. If a singer gets laryingitis it's like having a footballer play with a broken leg. JDB is a professional who takes putting on a good performance very seriously. Canceling gigs is something the band are never ever gonna take lightly. They care too much and people like you are the reason why I kinda wish they didn't sometimes. Besides, all you've done is slag them off on here this year, I dread to imagine your posts if the gig had happened.
