Fair point on the intent. It seemed he was going for some way of saying "this is bigger than me", but it sadly comes across as a song about the song which feels really odd given the subject matter. It makes it about Nicky, which is ironic given that the song genuinely wants to do the opposite.

And then there's:

"But thank you Jimmy Mah-GOOOOOOOOavern!"

Generally when listening to it, I tend to ignore the SYMM lyrics, and focus on the music, which (rightly said above) is incredible.

But...

Interesting point, and I tend to agree. But then there's also a case to argue that the Truth lyrics are mostly about Nicky. Unlike Richey I don't think he's ever been able to approach certain subjects in a purely objective way, and he's never really pretended to either, which is refreshing in itself. SYMM lyrically I'd say sees the clash of these styles up close, a fusion of how Nicky's thoughts and feelings over the prospect of writing in-depth on such a subject is removed to silence by his own personal thoughts and feelings on the tragedy. In that way it ties in nicely with the lyrical themes of most of the album, especially the latter half.

*pretentious analytical mode off*

I'm gonna defend this song:

It's got the lines "South, South Yorkshire Mass Murderer" I'm the chorus!
That's a pretty damning lyric and says all that needs to be said really!

It's deliberately vague throughout the rest of the lyrics, it's clearly stating the subject is hard to deal with, can it be dealt with in a song - or a song written by himself?
It has a lot of self doubt in there and is as much about Nicky as it is about the subject.

I think the intent is there and it's quite a fitting tribute by someone who seems genuinely upset and angry by it - to the point where he is almost speechless.

Maybe if it was a fiery little number more people would like it but I'm sure some people would equally find it distasteful and a little insincere.

'JUST LIZARDSSS' from Faster

'Refoogees' & 'Genoowin' (Hehe pronunciation ) from The Everlasting.

Oh, and the 'weeeeeeee weeeeee' guitar bit from The Intense Humming of Evil. It's really creepy and haunting and I feel as if something strange is harboured just in that sound. I am aware the 'weeeee weeeee' thing does not help me in terms of having others take me seriously, I just don't know any other way to describe it. Is colloquial the right word?

Stopping myself from posting my unpopular SYMM opinions *turns laptop off*.

I wouldn't change a thing about the music, one of the most incredible tracks I've heard from them for the spacious, atmospheric nature of the instrumentation and production. It might be a vibe killer but I'd love to hear it live.

The pained cry just before the final chorus in Epicentre.

The obvious "Drop your bombs on all I see..." moment from Solitude Sometimes Is.

"These unwritten diaries that can never breathe, never breathe..." - from Sepia.

The organ whenever it appears in Ready For Drowning.

The commanding guitar strum 10.5 seconds into Marlon J.D. which brings a sense of order to the music.

"Drop your bombs on all i see" is gorgeous. I also love the string bend used instead of a solo in the song, it is so powerful and expressive.

"So God is dead, like Nietzsche said, superstition is all we have left. Circle the wagons, we're under attack, we've realised there's no going back, we've realised there's no going back"

"... and it leaves be bliiinnnnnd"

"sunbreaks and cloudbursts, the hardest of all words"

"from despair to WHEERRRREEEEEE followed by the gorgeous music after

"ROSES in the hospital... try to pull my finger nails out" I love the contrast between the feel of the music and the lyrics being so dark.

There are just so many, but will leave it at that now!

The audio clip from The Virgin Suicides at the end of Doors Closing Slowly. TVS is one of my favourite books and films, so I just love that it is on there

When the solo kicks in on Elvis Impersonator.. That's another track painfully ignored for years from the set list.

They played it at the Ritz in 2013.
