Amazon Pre-order prices seem pretty good if you get in early :

Single CD version £5.76:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Generation-T...7451499&sr=8-2

Box set £23.99:
Not clear which version, probably Legacy Edition – 2CD/DVD
If its like the book versions of Journal or Postcards etc could be the Limited Edition Collector’s Edition – 3CD/DVD/Book/10” Vinyl version but much more likely the 2CD/DVD version.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Generation-T...7451499&sr=8-3

I might pre-order now. Can always cancel if found cheaper or signed copies elsewhere.

The formats are all fine and welcome. You only need to buy one and all levels are catered for. It's mainly the blatant rip-off price of the previous two box sets that was offensive.

Going on the listed contents of the limited edition and comparing them to those of the forthcoming Sex Pistols and Peter Gabriel box sets I've got my eye on, an RRP of £90 would be fair for this.

Why would anyone want to buy a single CD version when there's been one out for 20 years already? Crazy. If there's a 2CD/DVD release like the two previous anniversary editions I'll get that for Christmas as a present from a family member, forgot paying stupid amounts for a bloody shoebox with a few little extra bits or whatever.

The single-disc versions tend to be aimed for non-fans - the re-release promotion tends to push the albums into spotlight in music shops and a cheap, single-disc version is an easy way to tempt a non-fan who might be curious to find out what the fuss is all about. Plus, it's remastered so if you're a fan who can't be arsed with any of the bonus faffle and just wants the album to sound better, it's an alright way to go.

If they've been played and recorded, then by definition they cannot be "unheard". Only way a song can ever be unheard is if it solely exists as sheet-music, or is written and performed by a deaf person in a soundproofed room on their own...

which is exactly how they decided to test out Autumnsong to see if it could be considered single material.

I'll definitely be getting a version of this, not sure which one yet though. It's between the 3CD/DVD/book/vinyl edition and the 2CD/DVD edition, depending what's on the third disc and how much they'll cost.

Does anyone else feel really empty when these box sets, DVDs and Vinyls turn up? Usually by this point I've heard the album a million times, watched all the videos and go "... oh"
