If a bootleg were to be released as a Live Album...
One for all you bootleg hugging completionist monkeys
Basically, which is the best, most representative and highest quality (in terms of recording and also playing, setlist) bootleg in existence for the band? Maybe it sums up an era - maybe it works as good representation of all eras. But if you were given the job of selecting a single bootleg that would forever be the record of the manics live, which would you choose? I would have to be horribly unimaginative and say Manic Millenium, for sheer variety of songs, quality of playing and passion, and obviously soundboard recording. But I'm sure some of you have better suggestions than that

I always thought Reading 2002 was a good mix of what was their back catalogue at the time. It's so Easy, Royal Correspondant and Archives of Pain on the same set? Crazy.

I'd have to say Glastonbury '94 (possibly as a double with Reading '94), or Astoria gigs '94.
Admittedly Glastonbury because it already exists as A+ quality soundboard recording, therefore all I'd like to see is that recording released officially. In terms of fantasy, I'd like to see the astoria gigs as apristine quality 3 CD set. |

milton keynes bowl 94 is a great sound recording.. "this for two wheel freaks everywhere..motorecyle emptines" and a cracking version of repart with a cool james solo part!!!!!
Also nynex 97 is a great live bootleg! a sense of power in playing live! they to me sounded at the best and there was this hype and buzz around the manics then!! XFM winterwonderland... great recording and a good varied set!!

Some of the FD gigs are good, especially the cardiff radio one. T in the Park is a good live recording too, and some of the recent tours have been amazing. |

A few of my favourites would be:
- Phoenix 1993 (best version of RITH) - Phoenix 1996 - Leeds 1996 - Nynex 1997 - JDB Glasgow 2006 (fantastic version of Kyffin) and possibly Derby 2005 (just because its the one i went to) or one of the other PPF gigs because of some great songs and extra guitars. The solo into full band version of Archives of Pain was amazing to say the least. |

Well I'm sure they sounded pretty huge to a 9-year-old...

December 21st London Astoria 1994
last richey gig, nicky said that theres only footage of one song though why would you's want the manic millenium re-released? you could just take the audio from the dvd? or the gig was broadcast on the radio wasnt it? shame the xfm vids or the aol sessions wont see the light of a proper high resolution format. why do they bother to use such fancy expensive equipment to record these things only to release a crappy streamed file via the net? |
