I once had nothing but nice things to say about them on this board up until SATT. I also used to defend them from criticism over being 'shit since EMG' as vigorously as anyone. And - get this - I even used to do the old 'well, if you don't like them, why are you still here?' routine.

My sig is indeed intended to remind everyone that when I say these things I say them as a fan, albeit one who doesn't have any faith in the band at present. But you can rest assured that if the next album is SATT 2, I promise to never say another word about them. Because you're absolutely right in your observations, and I should have already left the forum about two years ago.

Quite frankly, all this moaning and negativity does nothing for me. I do mean it as constructive criticism, though. Even when I'm constructively criticising Underdogs and Autumnsong as the worst songs they could possibly manage to write.

But my comments in this particular thread don't really apply to any of that. And just because I questioned whether they really were '4 real' in what they were doing at the time Richey made that statement, you shouldn't take that to mean I don't like Motown Junk or You Love Us. Steve Lamacq likes them too!

I took the comments as humorous anyway, rather than especially negative.

The Manics are a great band, just also a very shit band at the same time /same criticism I seem to level at most of my favourite bands.

My original comment was also meant to be humorous. Maybe I should have used a

Believe me, I don't love everything they do either!

Ah God, sorry in my rush posting I forgot to comment on your pic!

I don't like that pic of Richey, sums up a lot of what I hate about the Manics, that being saiiiiidddd it's a fantastic painting, absolutely mindblowing and whilst I have little (read as 'no') idea of pricing artwork I'd say if someone liked that pic it'd be superb.

Great work!

Made me lol.

I think most people on the forum have directed some form of honest and/or intricate criticism towards the bandfor something or other. If there probably one thing thats quite prominent on this forum rather than most band fan forum is that fans can still be critical and cynical on here without the fear of being goded and chastised by other fans.

Back on topic, it sure it a great painting. Nice work.

sweetjayne- I think it's a great painting of an iconic photo (some say over used, true-but isn't that what iconic means). Large-scale works are hard to do and you have captured the look well while adding a little bit of the details that were lost in the high contrast photo. You don't need me to tell you that you're talented, but you are. I could easily see this in a recording studio or other public place. Good luck with the sale. I liked your other paintings as well.
