I too was slightly surprised they played ADFL and not another track from RIF last night but come on, the other acts only got one track each, they played International Blue and they’re on again on Sunday where it looks like we’ll get DC or LR as well (maybe both).

I went to the Jools recording last night
Liverpool revisited Distant colours International blue For the Sunday show. Band were in a strange mood. JDB really didn’t seem he wanted to be there at all. Wayne had his foundation touched up 2-3 times. Gavin was lovely. James actually said no to autographs and pictures to people outside so that was a bit of a shock. Bbc need to review how they manage people for stuff like this though. People treated like cattle rather than people. Boy azooga were excellent too. |

You bought the same album 5 (or 6) times? You know they play more than once?

James was doing some cool spins on the Jools show, was half-expecting him to take a tumble after what happened in Leeds - still amazed there's not more than 6/7 videos on Youtube from that gig, and none of James' fall which I wanted to see properly. I guess promotion is now completely over the for album and it's on to new things now?

The two Jools performances that the BBC has uploaded to YouTube are pretty nice.
Although the strings definitely sounded synthetic in parts of ADFL. And James taking it easy on the guitar is a shame... But not bad at all!

I just want to say I agree with some of the comments above.
And I actually think people have better comments and promote the Manics more when they're not hardcore fans, as they're not waiting for them to mess up everytime they play. James is obviously a high talent and as a band they're more experienced. I don't know why they have to be perfectly sounding on a tv show, or why they sounded a bit off. Actually I dont get that at all. I also think when Nicky did the No Feelings cover on the tour, he made a point that the song and sound isn't perfect. I'm glad if more people are buying the album though even when it has dropped in the charts. |

Just watched it. Overriding opinion is that Wayne Murray should not be allowed to a) stand in Richey's place - they've always been considerate / aware of that - what's changed? b) sing c) jump around and d) wear pink boots.
Jon Bon Jesus- he's taking the piss. Someone needs to have a word. And I agree with what others have said about James - he really looked like he didn't want to be there. And what's with the delegation of guitar duties?? They don't need to do that. Someone suggested that he's got the extra guitars so that he has to do less. I don't buy that theory. He doesn't have to do the solo on ADFL if he doesn't feel like it as the strings / synths do that - he only does it when he feels like it. |

Well with regards Wayne in the Richey spot, maybe that was BBC floor manager regulations more than a band decision.

Look, the Jools appearance sounded good. They presented themselves well. But this latest incarnation of the band with extra guitarists all at the front of stage and James playing less just doesn't sit right. I understand they want to replicate the sounds of the album, but James' playing is very particular and unique and it's a huge loss when other people are playing the trills and fills (and especially when they flub them like Wayne Murray on the verses on IB). I don't think it's unreasonable feeling that way at all.

No no, I want James to play more too, I was just saying it could have been a floor manager decision on Later.
I know the band get referred to as "The Indie Status Quo" but I really don't want to see James become Francis "Over 80% of our output is shit- Oh we aren't selling tickets for some reason now?" Rossi! |

I thought so too but Wayne and Gavin were further back than James and Nick if only a foot or two. It was close mind you but I think they still respected tradition....

James was perfectly charming in the interview. Who wants a slick perfect performance? You'd never achieve it cos no one would agree....rather have rough around the edges ... And pink boots
