It took me about five listens to the full track but I finally get it now and really like it.

Love the strings, especially the middle 8 which is my favourite part. It's definitely single material (or classic Radio 2 material, depending on your stance)

The only thing that I find a little annoying is that JDB's voice little too low in the mix against the female vocal when they're singing together.

People expecting a 'heavy' album might be disappointed as none of the tracks we've heard so far indicate this (and the album trailer certainly didn't, barring the IB sample). Even JDB mentioned that he now only typically records a single rhythm guitar track for a song, so that to me says that the songs will be given more room to breathe.

I'm glad I listened to the full version several times first, but I love both. I hope they make the acoustic version available in better-than-YouTube quality at some point.

She really just has an amazing voice generally, but yes, I think in some of their other duets with female singers James is in danger of slightly overpowering the other voice, but hers feels properly equal in power in a way I'm not sure any of the others ever have.

Wonderful stuff!

Hah... see above... I take the opposite view, that sometimes James' voice has been given a tad too much prominence in the mix of other duets... potayto/potarto... !

Agree with you about the strings, love them.

It does sound a lot like the beautiful south as others have mentioned. Which is absolutly fine by me! The beautiful south are great, especially the blue is the colour album.

Re: the overall feel to the guitars, I think it has a slight air of Black Dog on My Shoulder about it in terms of tone (if not slightly in playing style too.)

Really happy with this.

Musically, lyrically and topic-wise it is everything a Manics song should be.

It'll be exciting to hear what the album version is like (I only have access to the acoustic version at the moment).

Very satisfied!

Took two listens and I've been hooked all day.
Really loved international Blue and didn't mind Distant Colours and now this is superb!
The best Manics duet/guest song since LBN

I think I'm lucky that my tastes have mellowed as I've got older, so I compleltey get this song!

Can we get a poll for acoustic vs album track?

I love the acoustic version. Not digging the album production.

I've too much stuff on this Tablet to try Spotify but that acoustic version was better than the acoustic version of International Blue.
The thing about this song is Nicky said he was writing from a different perspective and he's to have done this two more times.
It is noticeable that compared to any James acoustics where it's clearly one man looking in and speaking alone, this lyric was more projected outward. Still as believable.
But I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out on album.
I really want all three non-Nicky but not James just writing, different perspective songs bunched together but I suppose that's what the program on my CD is for.
So not heard the studio version yet to confirm V but I am more cheerful after listening to this than I was Distant Colours.

The music and strings remind me of Paris 1919 album. Nice little song but hopefully some more rockier moments to come.

It may have coloured my judgement that I've been listening to TGW (and b-sides) for the last two days.

Still a great song though, I think. Best of the three so far for me, based on the acoustic version.
