Nope, nope and nope. He doesn't share their past and identity, he's had no hand in any of their music, he's a session musician and nah I'm no expert at all but I'm sure they could've found better.

On the other hand I've seen Smashing Pumpkins four times now and I think the line up has changed every time and that's been fine.

I don't think it will ever happen. I think he brings alot to the plate though. I think the band sounds so much better with a second guitarist, I know alot of you arent a fan of his vocals but I think they add more to the live sound aswell. At the end of the day James, Sean and Nicky employ him, they 'direct' the whole show so they obviously like what he does. Its great to see how much he gets into it as well. A really good addition to the 'live' band.

No, not really relevant IMHO and no.

On the other hand it would always be the band's choice. But then you might as well as say 'would you welcome the manics becoming a tory-supporting kazoo band who dress up as morris dancers and sing about yogurt', which would be their right too if they wanted to, but it's pretty unlikely.

I do think Wayne is a very talented songwriter though, and would be very happy for him to do some songs in collaboration with the band.

He's already done it once and I've heard a lot worse on MSP albums.

I quite like that! His voice is a million percent better singing there than his backing vocals.

so true.

They are employed by the band, they play the parts the band want them to play, they sing the parts the band want them to sing. I find it slightly harsh when theyre given a hard time.

Wayne has been posting a lot of photographs of the band for years. As it's been so long, perhaps the band should formally employ him as their official photographer?

His vocals on roses in the hospital were criminally bad. He seems sweet though, happy to have him as a session/touring guitarist

because of where i was sat at the dublin gig, i didn't even know there was a person there till james mentioned it. There was a column in the way, and when i leaned across, oh look, a person!

no, but not because I have anything against him as a musician or a touring backing vocal/guitarist - just because I can't imagine and wouldn't want anyone else in the Manics, and I don't think they'd feel right about it either.

No I wouldn't. As has been said, session/touring musician I can deal with. A full time member appearing in publicity shots, being interviewed etc… I don't think he'd like it let alone the band.

It could take the focus off "the manics" and add an unlawful weight from the press about "how they would sound" now they have a new member. Keep them as a three-piece with the touring extras.

That's really a different circumstance though. Green Day were always a trio prior to Jason White being made a full member. There wasn't another guy who might have been there previously.

I wouldn't be surprised if the manics wrestled with the concept of a touring guitarist, let alone a whole new member of the band. I think it's telling, where Wayne is, on stage. He's visible, but he's right at the back of the stage, and the spot where Richey should be is still empty, and will likely remain so.
