Richey on: Mausoleum/The Intense Humming of Evil
Richey: Brother/sister songs. Visited Dachau and Hiroshima. What reflections should be for everyone. Otherwise we're all Edward Scissorhands Avon Lady.
What does one suppose he meant by the Avon Lady comparison? I'd be interested to know peoples thoughts and opinions. |

'Pure', polite and unexposed to anything grotty or negative I guess

The Avon Lady was a specific character in Edward Scissorhands, the woman who discovers him at the top of the hill (Winona Ryder's character's mother). I haven't seen the movie in a long time, but for some reason think Richey missed the mark on his comparison. Can someone who has seen it more recently expand one way or another?

Avon is like some bizarre kitsch franchise thing where there's some old lady in your work who goes around with a book of (largely useless) women's products and you place orders with them. Some women sell to their friends and go door to door int he neighbourhood and they sit around all day drinking cups of tea waiting for their husbands to come. It's all very 50s Americana housewife scary Stepford Wives kinda thing.
The Avon Lady in Eddie Scissorhands would lead an extremely sheltered life and doesn't exercise any type of thought past her daily routine of cleaning the house, making the tea, doing her avon thing, drinking tea and serving her husband. Quote:
Avon Lady is false. |

Isn't the Avon Lady one of the people in Edward Scissorhands who doesn't turn on him? Or am I misremembering?
