I did queue for Brum NIA '07 and that was quite enough for me thanks! (Who was the nice girl with her hair in bunches that was directing everyone? Always wondered if she posted on here!) It was absolutely freezing but I got chatting to a wee Scottish girl and her boyfriend so that made the time pass a bit. I arrived an hour early but after getting into Wolves Civic this year exactly on time and still getting secong row I wouldn't bother queuing again unless I was with someone or meeting up with someone.

Yeah, it was bloody freezing - I waited an hour. I found the gig more memorable inside for talking to some lovely woman and her happy drunk Mark Williams lookalike. There was a bit of queue hassle getting in if I remember correctly, like a minor MEN 2004.

I'm tiny (five foot without heels on) and asthmatic, so being 2nd or 3rd row is pretty atrocious for me. I can't see and the inevitably taller people in front of me block my air and lead to me getting breathless and panicky. For those reasons, I prefer to queue to ensure that I get to the barrier, where I'll be able to see and where I'll have fresh air (sort of) in front of me, to help me breathe easier. If I don't think I'll get onto the barrier (i.e. if I can't queue at all for some reason, or if it's a massive venue and I'm really far back in the queue), I'll head further back, because there's usually a bit more space and it means that your view isn't so impeded by someone jumping around directly in front of you and there's a bit more space to breathe.

Another tour must.

Some guy near the front to shout while everyone is silent, James is changing guitar etc...

SLEEPFLOWER

Then crowd will go silent and think, umm yeah ok why not, James however will be alarmed, as he kidnapped the bloke who kept saying it during his solo tour in 2006, he is now working in a flower shop, during which most of the time, he sleeps..

Do you have jobs that allow you to take so many days off?
Back when I was younger I used to do a lot of temporary work. As long as I gave them notice, it was pretty easy to ring up the agency and tell them to find someone else for my position. I'd simply get a position with a new company when I returned. It was all unskilled minimum wage work so it wasn't never a problem as jobs were easier to come by then.

I've been working full-time when there's been a tour and it's just as easy to deal with. For example, the PPF tour was only two weeks long. It's simple enough to just put in two weeks leave like you would for a normal holiday.

Isn't it expensive to travel for 15+ days?
I've always found that tickets are the most expensive part of the tour. I have a different approach to travelling as most on here though as I'm a bit of a driving / car geek. I did the whole PPF tour (12 dates) by car and slept in it whenever I was away from home overnight. I think I totalled about 3,500 miles in a fortnight and was averaging about 50 mpg. I think the price of unleaded was around £4.20 per gallon at the time so 70 of 'em comes to just under £300. That was really my total outgoings apart from the tickets. I tend to tour on my own but you can obviously half that by taking along some company.

I don't tend to eat out either. I live (rather conveniently for tours) just off of a major road in the middle of the country, makes it simple to nip home for a shower and fill up my cool box. (i.e. between Southampton and Derby / Leeds and London)

Quote:
Do you buy tickets for all the dates in advance or what?
Yes! It's the only thing that stresses me out about Manics tours, the wait until the tickets go on sale hoping I can get the ones I want!

Quote:
The queueing issue is another thing that I wanted to ask. Are you standing the in the queue outside the venue to get in the front row? Even at a festival?? That is hours spent waiting!
I don't tend to queue nowadays. I feel that I have to see places I've travelled to because you never know when you're going to return. If the gig is in Nottingham or somewhere local like that then I'll have a mingle, it's always nice to meet fellow Manics fans. If I'm in London, I'm going to the V&A to pull out all the glass cabinets with musical instruments. If I'm in Llandudno, I'm going up Great Orme to admire the view. Horses for courses I guess.

Can't remember much hassle. Think there was something to do with the doors opening or which doors would be opened. Have never been so glad to get inside in all my life! Only had a t-shirt and fleece on!
