Although in fairness to my earlier comment they probably won't make money off this trip either, it's for their love of rugby, so bryter layter's point is totally valid.

Anyway enough carping, mega fun to all that go!

I think they've always been obsessed with rugby, haven't they? To be fair, Nicky seems to be obsessed with just about every sport going. When they were out here in 2010 we were saying to them they needed to come to NZ for the Rugby world cup, and they joked that they'd come out for the Lions tour, so it's been something they've been thinking about for a long time.

Just seen this so feeling a bit better now http://www.undertheradar.co.nz/news/...-Announced.utr

Yes, I remember you giving James stick for losing to Australia in just about every sport going No wonder they want to come to New Zealand - a country that supports any team playing Australia!

Whilst it probably wouldn't be any better for US fans, they could easily do a gig somewhere like NYC and make money with some promotion and advertising...they don't have to do an extensive tour. I mean they play obscure european festivals.

Vector Arena? If they sell that out, they may as well stay over there.

Favour? If you're in a band and you look at playing some gigs for people who spend a great deal of money on your music as a "favour", you've got some fucked up priorities where your career is concerned.

Anyway, the States didn't snub them, they never properly promoted themselves there. I know it's a romantic Manics myth that they were just too political to conquer the States, but the truth is, other than perhaps THB, they never had a sound that would have been commercial in that country so rather than building a comfortable alt following, they turned their backs on the States (and by extension Canada. God forbid they come here without playing the States! Hypocrites!) in favour of mainstream success elsewhere. That's fair enough, but don't blame music fans on this continent for not buying their albums in droves when they've never heard of them.

Call me Shannon. Bryter Layter was only chosen as my user name because I thought using my real name would make me look like an even bigger tool than I already do. Ha!
