Sorry this might be a really dumb question.
Is his Les Paul White or Ivory? If one wanted to buy a cheap replica (under £500) what would be advisable to buy?

Awesome thank you, I thought that was the case!
I started to second guess myself when I was looking at pics it looked creamy, and I saw that Gibson do an Ivory colour and wondered if it was that, but in other pics it looked very white. Just ordered the Epiphone Les Paul Custom from Amazon for £413, so that will he perfect :-)

The usual colour he plays is called 'Alpine White' which does indeed go yellow in parts, even worse if it touches something...

The Epiphones are pretty good - the only difference, visually, is the different headstock shape.
If you shop around for a used one, there have been Japanese Epiphones that actually have the Gibson-shape headstock (different legal/copyright issues allow it, I believe). Also, there are some good Japanese copies from the 70s to the present day that look like the Gibsons and play good - Greco or Burny tend to be decent. And like the post before... yep, it's Alpine White.
